Q: What vehicles are classified as freight?
A: Any vehicle that is being used for or designed for the carrying of goods. Therefore they cannot travel on passenger tariffs, and must pay commercial freight rates. Freight rates are subject to VAT.
As a general rule, the following will need to travel as freight:
- Vehicles designed for commercial use
- Vans
- Vehicles longer than 6 metres in length
- Vehicles carrying goods for commercial use.
- Vehicles carrying furniture

A: If you are carrying furniture, commercial goods, are travelling in a vehicle designed for commercial use (a van / mini van for example) or in a vehicle longer than 6 metres in length.
