The Prince Rupert - Port Hardy crossing in particular is very popular with international travellers and utilises one of BC Ferries larger ferries, meaning you’ll be treated to more of a cruise like experience than you might expect on some of the shorter trips.

The BC Ferries route network is very diverse, each with different needs, serving a different type of passenger. Some services require smaller passenger focused ships designed to travel short distances while others require large ships capable of transporting numerous passengers and their vehicles on lengthy crossings.
As a result, BC Ferries large fleet of ferries is made up of all kinds of vessels ranging from their flag ship 560 feet long S-Class twins, Spirit of British Columbia and Spirit of Vancouver Island to the 111 foot Nimpkish. The S-Class twins ply the Vancouver - Victoria route and can carry up to 2100 people and 470 vehicles per trip while the Nimpkish carries less than 100 passengers, 16 vehicles and operates along the Discovery Passage.
The larger ferries in the fleet feature numerous amenities and top class catering while the smaller ferries are more basic, generally with self-service food stations.

Good experience on board. Nice coffee. However checking in was a problem. Having booked in UK. BC had no record of us and was asked to pay again ! There is some disparity in the costs. BC costs much cheaper than charge by Direct Ferries.
