Cap Finistère
Operated by Brittany Ferries
This ship is no longer operated by Brittany Ferries.
The latest addition to the Brittany Ferries fleet, Cap Finistère feels like a "boutique hotel". It has an intimate, less formal ambience than the their flag ship Pont-Aven, whilst retaining a sense of space and comfort. Having had over £10 million spent on this vessel recently, it now provides an extremely comfortable experience. Onboard there are relaxed dining areas, outdoor decks and cafés, degustation sessions with experts, even make-overs and massage sessions: All with the usual superlative Brittany Ferries service.
Cap Finistère features numerous cabins, all of which are en-suite and air conditioned. There are also a number of cabins adapted for disabled passengers. Soap and shower gel are also provided in case you want to freshen up and you'll also find at least 1 plug socket to use or to charge any electrical appliances that you may have. Seats cannot be pre-booked on this ship.
With its intimate atmosphere, Cap Finistère's main restaurant, Le Café du Port has seating which runs either side of the ship. Diners can choose from two to four courses all served at your table and all at great value prices. To accompany your meal, there’s a superb choice of great value French wines - simply ask your waiter or waitress for any suggestions. Located on the outside top deck, next to the pool, the Blue Marine café offers a selection of self-service snacks, including pizzas, pasta, burgers and salads. Due to its location, this café may be closed during bad weather and during low season. Located near the main restaurant, Le Petit Marché is ideal for passengers wishing to have a snack rather than a full meal and offers a range of sandwiches, snacks and cakes, plus some healthy options. Situated at the back of the ship, the main lounge bar ‘Planets Bar’ serves everything from the finest French wines to cocktails. Also on the menu are hot and cold drinks and snacks. With a mezzanine-style seating area reached by a sweeping staircase, the bar offers a real cruise ship feel with plenty of space to get together with friends, or simply find a quiet spot by the window. Located outside at the back of the ship on the top deck next to the sun deck, the Cap Finistère's unique Belle View Bar offers passengers a perfect setting to relax and watch the world go by. Due to its location, this bar may be closed during bad weather and during low season.
Boutiques can be found on deck 7 and feature a fine range of spirits, wine, tobacco, perfumes & cosmetics, leather goods, confectionery, toys, fashion, decoration, souvenirs, newspapers, games, cameras, sunglasses, jewellery. Purchases made on board may be paid for in Euros or Sterling. Payment can be made in cash, by credit or debit card. Prices are shown in both currencies and you can combine different payment methods.
The magnificent outdoor pool area offers guests the perfect opportunity to unwind. Relax on a sun lounger, sip a drink from the bar, or have a splash in the pool that offers great sea-views. Cap Finistère features plenty of deck space so you can stretch your legs and and enjoy a calm spot to relax, while enjoying the sea air and incredible views, particularly when entering or leaving the port. Recently introduced on Cap Finistère is a dog exercise area located on deck 10. 'Wi-Fi time' can be purchased from the information desk. There is a cinema onboard where you can catch some of the latest films. There is also a cash machine dispensing euros, and a baggage room to store your luggage.
Young children can enjoy fun and games in the playroom on deck 10.
There are specially adapted cabins for disabled passenger use, there are disabled toilets throughout and all decks are accessible by lifts.
Please Note: Whilst we have taken great care in making our Cap Finistère guide as accurate as possible, onboard facilities, services and entertainment may vary depending on the date and time of year that you travel, facilities mentioned may change without notification and ferry companies reserve the right to operate vessels other than those mentioned at time of booking without prior notification.

"Extremely disappointed by Direct Ferries "
During the checkin process I was issued a seat ticket which was totally wrong as I clearly booked and paid for a cabin both ways. Brittany Ferries could provide a cabin outgoing for which I had to pay another £149 for. For the return trip I was not even issued a seat ticket which is totally unacceptable. The help desk on board did issue one at it is a legal requirement. The ship was Salamanca which isn’t even on your list!
"Staff"
Facilties are very comfortable. Ship is great. Best of all the staff are very helpful and friendly. Its a great shame that the expereince at passport control and customs is not as quick as it used to be thanks to the Brexit nonsense
"Delays and lack of info"
Our sailing has been delayed by 26 hours so your email requesting a review is premature. As a company you have been completely inaccessible for us to find out information related to the delay and what our expected arrival time in Spain is. This isn’t satisfactory
"Not sailed"
Not been yet as it got cancelled awaiting date when we can sail as we live in Spain
"Portsmouth to Bilbao"
The crossing was cancelled we were promised our money back but not received it yet
"Last ship to spain "
Perfect trip
"Overall experience "
The Direct Ferries App was very easy to use, however, I needed to change the date of departure and it took almost 2 days to get a confirmation email that it had been changed (After using the ‘amend’ tab on the App) and that was only after having to phone Directferries. This time delay is unacceptable especially as the new departure date was imminent and not knowing if the amendment had been successful caused a high degree of stress. In terms of the check in and boat facilities then their is no complaint at all with friendly staff and good facilities. Come on DF, 48 hours to confirm an amendment is unacceptable
"Direct ferries uk "
Our first experience went really well except we were delayed at Portsmouth by 2hrs .
"Pleasure"
A Nice way to travel across the Chanel
"Service not used"
I tried to change the dates of travel, as we needed to include 2 dogs but received an email to say it was not possible. So I lost 538 euros! Service needs to be more flexible and more facilities for pets, please.
"Great Trip! "
Enjoyed our trip across to Spain. Relaxing start to the holiday.
"Awesome"
Very good crossing sea was calm staff very pleasant
"very good crossing despite a bit of heavy sea"
I have done this trip 4 times and it is always good. Getting on an off is very straightforward and well coordinated. Cabins are good with comfortable beds and the shower albeit small is better than some hotels! Bars and food offerings is good , restaurant food is of a high standard. The ship is clean , although now looking slightly old. There was a heavy sea crossing the Bay of Biscay but no problem . Overall a good experience. Crew are always happy and quick to help , customer service I have always found to be excellent.
"Bilbao to Portsmouth on Cap Finistere"
The most striking thing is how charming the crewe were ..... extremely charming .... all of them .... and at all times. Overall a nice boat with convivial furnishings and pleasant bars. Pleasant shop and restaurant and shop. Cabins are quite small but very clean and the beds are extremely comfortable. Our cabin was an external one so really appreciated the light and views of the sea. Cafe is good .... partially open to the elements so good in bot weather.
"Disappointed"
The ferry was cancelled, we were informed by a text message, which we fortunately picked up (not so easy when travelling by motorbike). The first telephone operator we spoke with (Tricia) was unhelpful. She advised us that there would be no sailings from Spain until the following week and that we would need to travel 600 miles to the north of France for the next available ferry. When we made a second call to confirm we would reluctantly have to accept this option, a further operator (Anna) was surprised at the information we had been given and advised that if we made the 50 mile trip to Santander we could catch another ferry to Plymouth that evening (less convenient as we live in Essex, but at least we would get home). We checked out of our hotel 2 hours after we arrived, thereby incurrinng the cost of an overnight stay which no longer required. Very disappointed with the service.
"Excellent service marred by silly detail"
It was a good trip. Thank you. Two minor criticisms. 1. One of the restaurant staff was having a ‘bad hair day’ and was abrupt, noisy (on purpose) and ratty - at lunch on 20th. Other staff were delightful. She was a bit older.2. The room card needed changing. Very frustrating to be refused entry to one’s own room. Response from staff: « It’s the system « « We have no power: you have the power » - I doubt it somehow! And, « Oh it often happens »!
"What's Happening?"
This Thu sailing between Bilbao and Portsmouth was cancelled on Wed just as we were setting off from home for an overnight stop in Pedrona. When we eventually got through to Brittany Ferries, having been given the wrong number, we were rebooked by them onto the Mon sailing from Santander. Despite telephoning and writing to Direct Ferries for confirmation we have received nothing. We set off Sun and hope we have a confirmation by then!
"Our first 24hour ferry crossing"
Brittany ferries started off badly by being late, we were told they had a technical issue, whatever that means. Loading the ship took another two hours, so there was a lot of hanging around. The ship itself was clean and tidy, we liked our cabin accommodation and having our own ensuite facility. We used the salad bar facility throughout as its on the top deck and you get a better view, although the weather meant you couldn't see much. I was a little confused by having a ship sailing from Spain staffed by French people who charged you in pounds sterling, or gave you a poor rate for Euros. You could use plastic to pay but I still have to find out if I've been charged for the privilege. I would use again if necessary and was about as expected.
"A tale of two trips."
Out bound trip was perfect - left on time, smooth crossing and generally everything went well. However, the return trip was a bit more of an adventure - we loaded late, the Biscay was in a bad mood and my Black Beef Burger wasn't great (too much French mustard). But we made up a bit of time and got in about 00.30.
"Why have you charged me £90.00 >> something for cancellation fees."
We have not used our cancellation fee can you refund it, twice please, once for my fellow traveler. At sorties wlking to our cabin on the 9th floor I could smell foul water, toilet smells.
"Smooth crossing"
Direct ferris do not give enough information about the ship and facilities. When we arrived at our cabin we found it had bunk beds, not good for us in our 70,s. We went to info desk and paid a supplement for a 4berth cabin . It was a smooth crossing with excellent Resturant facilities.
"Great service by Brittany Ferries but book direct with them, it's no cheaper and you have more choic"
The whole process of booking the cruise through to the end was seamless. The ship was clean, a great cabin and the staff very courteous. The only drawback was a flat tyre when we returned to our car and this was down to a screw in the tyre - beware of the surroundings (we had only driven 800 yards from our hotel), but had an electric pump which allowed us to limp home.
"Comfortable journeys "
The ferry to Santander was economy so not much entertainment. I liked the reading lounge and luckily weather was great so it was nice to relax in the sunshine. The food was pricey and mediocre. The return ferry was much better. There was small outdoor swimming pool, cinema, entertainment in the form or bingo, quiz and talks. Wider range of food. Overall better experience despite the grey cloudy weather.
"Portsmouth to Santander"
Ran 3 hours and a half late!!! Only informed 5 hrs before and already travelling. This ferry had run late for two crossings before so why not tell people earlier a huge wait and slow boarding......
"Trip Back To The UK"
A great experience from start to finish, nice friendly staff clean cabin nice food on board and very smooth loading and unloading on and off the boat.
"Portsmouth to Santander "
A rather mixed experience. The outward leg was on Baie De Seine which is really a truck ferry, not much for the kids to do. The play area was small and they got a little bored with it quickly. General facilities were ok. We returned from holiday on Cap Finistere totally different class a lot better, large area for the kids to run around in, a pool and nice places to relax. A stark contrast to the outward journey which left us thinking of the £1300 fare what experience were we paying for??
"Easy way to travel"
It was our first time travelling by ferry - but it was very easy to board and disembark. There were activities for children. We only ate at the cafe but the food was excellent. The menus looked good in the main restaurant but remember to book a table. The bunks were clean and comfortable. Overall it made a lovely change from airports and flying! We would definitely do this again. We can think of nothing that we didn't enjoy.
"Superb Service"
Everything about both journeys was very good. In particular the food in the restuarant was superb as was the service.
"Go to the beauty Salon "
The beauty salon on board is fab for s facial - great service , lovely products .
"Trip to spain"
Lovely journey very relaxing.
" Excellent ferry"
Most enjoyable 24hour crossing, cabin very clean and comfortable Restaurant food excellent quality and reasonable prices, the journey was helped by the calmest seas I’ve ever seen, felt like the ship was not moving 😊
"Very nice experience on Cap Finistère !"
Very comfortable ship, with super-courteous and efficient staff. Nice amenities and tasty food. One of the nicest experiences on sea !
"Portsmouth Bilbao june18"
A pleasant experience from checking in, security etc, boarding with ease and cabins comfy and clean. Food aboard had variety in terms of choice and price. quality was there. travel time went in ok and embarkation at ports was easy and no problems. A professional operation and to be recommended.
"Holiday"
Cabin very outdated and not as described. Bedding old with a few holes in. Towels old and hard and not very pleasant smelling, Beds ROCK HARD. Can only recommend this as its the only route available. I know its not a cruise ship but basic cabins and cabin facilities need updating. Good restaurant and catering facilities. Ship was clean as was cabin but toilet seat was shameful as was the sink and shower. Needs some money spent on the cabins.
"Outward journey not happy return journey perfect. "
Booked a disabled cabin which turned out to be totally unsuitable. Emailed to ask for a more accessible cabin for return journey, was told ship was full so couldn't help. Then phoned and spoke to Sue who gave us a great cabin on deck 8 which was perfect. Ship was not full so the lady who replied to our email Was telly porkies.
"Trip to Bilbao"
The ship’s accommadation was comfortable but I did pay for a cabin with a tv , but upon arrival there was not one included. But the thing that shocked me the most was I am a Vegan and There was absolutely no food suitable for me to eat, so had to have chips and dry bread for my evening meal, and no breakfast as there was only ordinary milk and nothing else not even toast. Come on Britany Ferries this is the 21 st century there are over 2 million of us vegans that get hungry like anybody else. I do feel I should get some money back but I am not holding my breath.
"cap finestere"
very pleasant
"Did not travel "
Was looking forward to the trip but 2 days prior to sailing I took ill and was advised by my GP not to travel. So lost 400 pound ferry cost as well as other holiday costs and unable to rebook due to having to wait for hospital appointment. So not a happy person.
"Portsmouth to Bilbao"
We found this a great relaxing way to get to Spain in our motorhome. It worked out about £150 more each way than driving ,when you’d taken fuel into account ! No wear and tear or miles on our vehicle . We found the food on board to be on the expensive side as with most captive audiences ! But would definitely do it again. Be ware of the phone charges, as your mobile connects to the ships satellite system and costs are very high ,we were charged £25 between us for literally just having it turned on !!!!!!
"An alternative gateway to south west france"
We wanted a relaxing route to France which allowed us time to unwind so a ferty-cum-cruise on the Cap Finisterre was potentially perfect. It proved to be just that. The cabin was clean and sufficiently large though next time I'd pay more to have a sea view. Meals cost extra, which as seasoned 'cruisers' we found odd (why not do all-in deal?). Staff were very helpful. Video lounge had good choice of films, though best one meant we'd have missed dinner if had chosen it.. Restaurant was too good to do that! Any gripe? Poor information re disembarking and difficult to hear Tannoy.
"Comfortable and Convenient"
The Cap Finistere is a comfortable ferry, the cabins are small but adequate with hanging space, two beds which are comfortable and a bathroom. They are fine for us as it's only for sleeping. The shower is good. The boat has space to wander around, plenty of seating areas inside and out. Entertainment is varied and the bar area good. We have never eaten in the main restaurant however, as we have not liked the menus on each occasion but have eaten in the other two and they are good. It's a great trip, we've been lucky with the weather every time, fast, convenient and comfortable. The ferry left Portsmouth late but we arrived on time in Bilbao. Getting on and off the ferry is efficient.
"Facilities on boat are adequate "
Directional signing to Bilbao ferry is appalling.
"Amusements"
23hr journey does become a bit boring oerhaps a few more amusements? Films, a gym, some sort of games room? Otherwise a pleasant enough journey, thank you.
"Would have liked to bring my dog."
The dog cabins book up too early. What a shame!
"The Best !"
Brilliant service and i found the top deck bar that served French stew ! Simply the best with a glass of vin rouge !
"Enjoy "
We enjoyed it
"OUR JOURNEY TO SPAIN"
THE SHIP WAS VERY CLEAN THERE WAS A DELAY BUT THAT WAS NO TROUBLE ITS A VERY GOOD SHIP ALL THE HANDS ON THE SHIP ARE GOOD TO . I WOULD USE THEM AGAIN.
"A great way to travel "
I was very impressed by the staff and the quality of the accommodation and food. Will definitely do it again
"Nice trip "
Good trip fair price but .items ie food drink over priced on ship and not great quality had sandwich hard bread brown salad for £3 took back .next time would be tempted to take own food .
"Stress-free voyage"
We were really impressed with every aspect of the voyage. The staff were polite and friendly, the cabin was spotlessly clean & well-equipped and the food was excellent. We arrived in Portsmouth having had a good night’s rest and thoroughly pleased we chose this option.
"martin&malc+motorhome"
excellent
"Good journey "
Very good journey; went very smoothly ; used many times ; very satisfied
"Cap finistere"
First time sailing with brittany ferries absolutely 1st class thank you
"Bilbao ferry"
After driving from Calais to Spain we decided to take the Bilbao ferry on the way back. This is a completely personal view but we would never do this again in the Winter months. The ferry was lovely, lots to do, entertainment was good, staff were lovely, cabins clean, lovely hot shower but we clearly do not have sea legs. The bouncing started about an hour into the journey, after 3 hours we all went to our cabin to lay down as we felt it may help..it did not. My description of 12/13 hours of the journey was a mixture of being on a rollercoaster and a fast waltzer! As soon as we got into the channel the final 6/7 hours were lovely but travelling on the seas in the Winter months are not for us. Other passengers have clearly done this journey before as we seemed to be the only people who found it so scarey and uncomfortable.
"Ferry cancellation"
We understand the weather is rough at the time we travelled and ferries will be cancelled. We travelled down from Aberdeen to Portsmouth and half way down received a phone message informing us the ferry was cancelled until 8am the following day. If the message had been clear telling us we were to be sailing to France and not BIlbao we would have cancelled the trip and went home.
"Overnight trip to Santander "
Due to bad weather times affected and delays
"Trip to Santander"
As the catering was poor quality, I would not recommend this trip to anyone as you are stuck for 24 hours. The cooked breakfast was inedible and luke warm. The fish and chips in the upper deck bar was just warm, tasteless and greasy. The pizza for lunch was bearable. The signage between blue level 1 and my cabin on level 9 was not clear, particularly when returning to the vehicle. My cabin key did not work on two occasions.
"Excellent Experience"
Wonderful trip. Excellent accomodation, facilities and staff. Highly recommended route and company.
"Our experience "
We traveled out to Spain on your ship without hitch and the journey was ok. The cabin was very basic with no frills but was ok for one night. Coming back was a disaster. Our ferry was cancelled. We had to drive to St Malo adding 1000 miles to our drive and approximately £500 to our hotel bills. We waited to embark for 5 hours having been advised that the boat would sail earlier than scheduled only to find it sailed on time. The cabin was more spacious but the shower curtain was very smelly and could be smelt outside of the bathroom. We had one night instead of the sceduled two and no refund or offer of financial compensation for the extra outlay. Would not travel with Brittany Ferries again.
"Short visit "
Very comfy cabin. Dis appointed because we had to leave our dog in the garage but was told we could go and see her on the journey. She ended up in the car for 15 hours alone I think that was cruel.
"Fast & Efficient"
Travelled a few times with Brittany and they are always well organised and efficient at loading. Cabin was clean and comfortable and the food on board was tasty and very reasonably priced.
"Don't book with direct Ferries"
I can not criticise Brittany Ferries the Ferry the crew an the service was excellent but as for direct Ferries don't use them our ferry was cancelled due to bad weather so we had to travel from Spain to France to catch another Ferry over 1600km we rebooked with direct Ferries the girl who we rang was very rude booked and charged us for cabin when I checked price it was for s four berth cabin I called back and explained it was just two of us as originally booking she stated very bluntly only four berth available so that's what we have to pay for. I checked site and two berth was available called back same girl same rude tone would not agree any available Got to ship asked on ship was told plenty of two berths available typical con by this company happens a lot!!!! No refund was offered !!!!!!!!!
"not brill "
So, bit expensive, but saves long drive. However poor security in Bilbao port, 3am illegals trying to get into lorries, motorhomes, loads of security about. Ship not as good as PontAven for food, mainly French food, which is not to everyone's taste, but ok. Bit of Mal De Mere due to the sea.
"Terrible mattress"
We were really disappointed. Having spent the extra money to upgrade our cabin the quality of the mattress was terrible. It should have been replaced many voyages ago. We have used this crossing many times and have never experienced the problem in the past
"Bunk beds"
If we had been aware that it was bunk beds we would not have booked. At our age 81 and 71 it's not so easy to climb up to the top bunk. The crossing was good.
"Unable to make trip"
Due to family illness was unable to make the trip. Lost all my ferry fare as a result. Nothing more to say.
"Excellent Crossing."
Portsmouth to Bilbao with the French! First time on Brittany Ferries and very impressed. I didn't realise it was French operated (predominantly) but like everything our French cousins do, they do it with a panache the British seem to lack! The catering and restaurant was superb; in fact just as good as an upmarket Parisian restaurant. The staff were all bi-lingual and very gracious with their service and accommodating for late arrival breakfast. I have a double bunk cabin. Warm as toast, clean and cosy. Only thing missing was a TV! But for the price and nature of the trip, I could live without a TV for 24 hours; in fact it gave me time to start a new Dan Brown book, Origin. The crossing was like a millpond. Calm and fair seas. Like sailing on a lake. The departure and arrival were bang on time and all in all a very pleasant sea ferry journey down to Bilbao from Portsmouth. Will be using them for my return leg trip back to the UK and whole heartedly recommend anyone to use them. The car parking when driving on board was well organised and thorough and you instantly feel everything will be well looked after and organised. Very impressed with Brittany Ferries. A plus to them.
"Disappointing"
I was disappointed to discover that it was going to be a 2 night journey (due to stopping off at Roscoff), only after I had completed the booking process. I upgraded to a club cabin with a TV, which was impossible to follow anything important, as it kept losing the signal for a second or two, every couple of minutes. I consider this a very expensive cabin for what was received. There was no entertainment to speak of, hence nothing to do but eat and drink. On a two night crossing, not very satisfactory.
"Bit annoyed actually."
No issues with the ship, or the staff onboard. Crossing was good, food excellent, staff onboard friendly. Checking in however, different story. When I booked the ferry I entered my campervan as being 5m in length. Having sailed many times over the past 2/3 years I have never had problems before. This time the girl decided my van looked longer. And actually it was. Five metres and thirty centimetres to be exact. So the girl decided to charge me and extra 35 pounds. Taking the piss I reckon.
"First ferry crossing "
Overall very good
"First time traveller "
Thoroughly enjoyed our sea voyages despite very rough seas both ways. Allow plenty of time for embarkation & disembarkation and just be patient.
"Bad weather"
Sailin* cancelled. Ship wentbto Cherbourg instead
"First sailing on Brittany Ferries"
Fabulous first time experience, our deluxe cabin was very good , enjoyed every minute, took the stress out of the journey from Scotland to Portsmouth and then the onwards journey.
"Review of Ferry from Portsmouth to Bilbao"
This was our first trip on this route and whilst generally pleased with our experience there were a few areas of dissatisfaction. We had to wait for long periods of time to board the boat. At Portsmouth there were a number of large containers being put on board and could not understand why they could not go on last after the passengers. At Bilbao we were called to our cars and had to wait approx 25 minutes to disembark. Lucky the weather was cool otherwise it would have been most unpleasant. The cafe on Deck 10 is not warm enough to sit in on the autumn/winter months, we tried it once but was too cold.
"A thoroughly sophisticated and enjoyable experience - the best way by far to get back to the UK from"
Unfortunately our departure was delayed by two and a half hours due to bad weather in the B of B. That said , we were kept informed of changes in a timely manner and knew the length of delay from shortly after arriving at the terminal. Boarding was well organised and our car and pod trailer were ushered with care into the car decks. Lucky to have been allocated a 4 berth outside cabin for the two of us. All nice and clean and comfortable! Good value breakfast dinner in the restaurant and great value breakfast the following morning on Deck 10. All in all a very pleasant experience and whilst not cheap (£404 one way from Bilbao to Portsmouth) we don't believe it would have been much cheaper driving all the way back with a couple or three overnight stays and meals, etc. This was comfortable and relaxing Well done Brittany Ferries!!!
"Acceptable "
I found the cabins to be ok. Nothing fancy but they served there purpose. The whole experience was not bad except I Was very disappointed with the food and the WiFi is ridiculously expensive.
"Brittany Ferries Bilbao to Portsmouth "
We travelled in our Motorhome on a Tuesday morning & were allowed with lots of others to book in between 16.00-19.00 on Monday afternoon & stay at the port overnight which was great... the ferry was very well served with lots of eating places, bars & a shop, our cabin was fine with ensuite facilities. The only downside to this crossing is the price, we feel it is very expensive ( maybe because of lack of competition) however all the time we can afford it we will use it.
"First ferry trip with motorhome"
We were a bit apprehensive as we only had our motorhome 2 weeks and never travelled abroad before! However we needn't have worried as it couldn't have been easier from booking to boarding and departure. Cabin was comfortable towels and shower gel provided. Evening meal was lovely, be sure to book asap as we didn't and was 9pm before we ate.
"Road trip heaven !!!"
As a first timer taking my surf wagon over by ferry was a little daunting but so so worth it. My only regret was not booking it sooner as it was quite expensive. However relative. It flew by no pun intended ... the staff were friendly and attentive. It was as much a pleasure on the way back as it was on the way out. Thank you and I'll be seeing you again. Norv
"Brittany Ferries aboard Cap Finistère Portsmouth to Bilbao August 2017"
An excellent 24 hour Ferry journey to Bilbao for a fabulous holiday in Northern and mid-Portugal. The ferry was clean and comfortable with friendly French staff. The dinner in the restaurant was exceptionally good on both journeys and close to Michelin star quality with an excellent wine list at reasonable prices. Merci to the chef, kitchen staff and waitering staff . The queueing to make an evening dining reservation could be organised more efficiently as could queuing to purchase cinema tickets ..Two receptionists and two tills for cinema payments would reduce time waiting. There is a lot of entertainment organised early evening for children and talks organised about Whale watching for example. The seating in the bar areas and elsewhere is comfortable. The cabins are functional, basic but clean with bunk beds for our inner Room. My three teenage boys and myself enjoyed the Ferry very much. It was a wonderful start and finish to our summer holiday. Merci!
"Crossing to spain"
Bit disappointed, actual ship looks different to pictures food very poor dinner was way below standard, not what we expected!
"Plain sailing"
Everything went well. No complaints. Even waiting for the cleaners to finish the cabin was no problem. They work hard! All staff onboard deserve 10/10. Pleasant and friendly and helpful. I will highly recommend to everyone in the future. Thank you
"looking ford to trip and it became a nightmare"
boarded the ship in bilbao perfect all smooth no problems, checked into my cabin the smell of wet dog was awful ,i went to customer services they said i had booked a cabin in the pet area and it was on my ticket ......i showed my ticket nothing about booking that cabin on it and why would i ,they showed me another cabin 2 doors along the same passage way it was no different when i said that i was not happy they said there was nothing else and that that was the cabin for the journey . i ended up sleeping in the lounge area as i could not use the cabin and i had a 10 hour trip back to scotland when we landed... i emailed direct ferries when i was on the ship they in the end offered £30 "what a joke" , i was really looking forward to the trip as the ship was amazing but it turned into a nightmare some of the people i met on the ship were telling me there was empty cabins near them yet staff said there was none ,,,,,,,,
"Great trip"
Ferry to Bilbao was a pleasure and very comfortable
"Mixed feelings."
Travelling from Portsmouth to Bilbao at the end of May was such a pleasure, staff at the docks were very efficient although loading did take a long time, we left pretty much on time. Interior cabin spacious, a la carte dining very good and the in house whale talks interesting . A very pleasant , very calm crossing. Our return crossing at the end of June on the economy boat encountered a force 10. The steward in the lounge bar was fantastic.... helping people on to their feet after chairs were up ended and generally being a help all round. The weather cannot be organised but I do question the sanity of keeping serving drinks in glasses throughout! .self service dining system was very good. So generally I would rate this ferry service highly with one large criticism.... signage into the port at Bilbao is atrocious and the port staff really not impressive. Our outward journey made me think we would use this route again, but the Bilbao end was probably messy enough to prefer the drive through France.
"Mini cruise to Spain"
This is the hassle free way to travel to Spain and avoid the long road trip across France. The ship is large and comfortable with opportunities for snacking, dining, watching a film or having a dip in the open air pool. If you wish your pet to travel with you then dogs are welcome and in some instnces may share your cabin. Only two criticisms....the ladder to the top bunk is pretty steep and a bit of a challenge for those less nimble and best to leave your vehicle locked for the duration as somebody had clearly been inside my car when it was time to disembark.
"Decent crossing "
Apart from bad weather & very rough crossing on our particular crossing (obviously a weather fault & out of hands of ferry company) we had a decent crossing once on board. By that I mean up in deck, in cabin. BUT actually getting car on board wasn't as pleasant, guided down into depth of ship ok, but then the final couple of minutes watching & being guided into a parking spot was manic!! Cars were having to reverse - go forward & back being squeezed into spots were at times looked very very close to each other. Then when it came my turn, I couldn't get out of drivers door I had to crawl over passenger seat to get out of car! Perhaps Brittany Ferries try to hard to get too many vehicles on board!!!! Also at times rather noisy up on deck with dogs barking!!!
"Smooth Crossing"
From our arrival at the harbour in Santander everything was smoothly organised. The crew on Cap Finastrat were friendly and efficient and the facilities excellent.
"All OK but not for me"
I travelled both ways with Cap Finistere ship and I enjoyed the fact it still had Greek signs everywhere. Outward I was in deck 10 in a 2-berth inside cabin. You could hear the engines and it was a little too loud at some moments of the 25hour crossing. On the way back I was at deck 7, where I experienced first-hand the stupidity of many; why on earth would someone put the car alarm when parked inside a ferry? Because they are stupid and don't know how to not activate it or they don't care for the received instructions? I didn't use the 'club' as it was full of people significantly older (nothing against them!) than me and didn't feel like doing so. I felt that the ship generally has a plethora of eating options available for different budgets and tastes. The shop inside has all basic things and a good selection of perfumes and magazines. Getting in and out of the ship was very easy as there are everywhere friendly staff and help and it's not rocket science anyway. It was indeed a bit lengthy, but I appreciate the efforts of the crew to successfully complete this complex task. I think the ship offers the facilities to keep children busy with various activities and relatively isolated from the non-interested to kids passengers. All in all it was a great experience, but not for me. Won't do it again. Booked tickets a bit late (a month in advance) and paid 570gbp and didn't enjoyed it at all. The sleep was good though and the room facilities. It was just extremely boring, but fit my purpose to reach Spain at certain time with my bike. Next year the bike will be shipped and I'll get on a low cost flight to save myself from boredom and holiday days. Best point of my experience was the staff. All of which I interacted with were great! They out effort and pride at their jobs and always with a truly friendly smile a d attitude. Cleaners, technicians, the guys at the garage decks, the crew and the restaurant team. And some very pretty people there too 😊
"Very impressed "
We were first time ferry goers & not sure what to expect, we were pleasantly surprised! The getting on & off was very efficient & it seemed to be that if you were last on at one end you were first off at the other so it seemed fair ( or we may have been lucky ) the cruise ferries had great amenities including restaurants & a cinema to pass a couple of hours on. Food was on the expensive side , but options to make it cheaper or bring your own on board. W had a fairly calm sail both ways & saw dolphins both times which was great. Overall a great experience which we would like to repeat.
"A Hard Days Night"
Vehicle loading and disembarking went very smoothly. Ferry staff brilliant. Loads of comfortable seating on upper decks. Plenty of bars with a wide variety of drinks. Excellent breakfast available on arrival, reasonably priced.. Good eating and dining facilities. On board entertainment available and popular. Cabin facilities let down by very uncomfortable bunk mattresses. Also the cabin was cold through the night and the duvet provided very light. I had to put on extra clothing to avoid extreme discomfort!
"Return to UK"
We recently toured France and Spain returning on the ferry. It was a very relaxing and pleasant end to our trip. Much nicer than 2 days of hard traveling by car and then the Chunnel. I would do it again.
"Feedback"
Wi fi connection poor Bathroom was dirty in the cabin on return trip Cabin air conditioning did not work on return trip Would have liked a few more products in the shop Food was good but expensive
"Great Experience"
Great experience, Travelled from Portsmouth to Santander with vehicle, Cabin was clean and spacious, Originally booked to travel to Bilbao but due to unforeseen circumstances on our part We missed ferry But the person that we spoke to at the terminal in Portsmouth could not have been more helpful, She quickly got us booked on to next available ferry, Even helped us to find somewhere to stay for couple of nights,
"Sailing on a millpond."
From start to finish the whole process was so simple. We decided to go to Spain this time and take our car rather than hire one out there. It turned out cheaper than a weeks car hire. The boarding process was simple, drive to Portsmouth & follow the sign posts. Once through the simple check in we joined the que and waited for about an hour before boarding, just follow the leader until you come to a stop behind the car in front. Just make sure you have hand luggage with enough packed for 32 hrs sailing, bit of advice, take your travel kettle & a continental plug adaptor, once the bar closes 11.30 1st night 10.30 2nd night the only way to get a tea, coffee, drinking chocolate is from a machine in tiny cups. The cabins are smallish with narrow but comfortable bunks, adequate shower, toilet and wash facilities. The food in the self service Resturant was pleasant enough but we never tried the onboard a la carte resturant but from what I overheard it was nice enough. You hear stories of the Bay of Biscays seas can be extremely rough but fortunately the sea was flat calm for the whole trip, in fact when we woke up on the final morning approaching Bilbao, going out to the deck there was not a ripple on the water, only the wake of the ship. There was an alarm call an hour before docking, on English time exactly 7.45, don't change your clocks until you've landed. Then a message came over the tanoy that a continental breakfast was available in the main bar on deck 7, once you've had time to eat that it's time to make your way to your vehicle and time to leave the ship and continue with your holiday. All in all it was a very relaxing journey and we would have no hesitation in making this trip again. Excellent vfm.
"Poor customer service "
Very poor service in restaurant. Eventually walked out after waiting nearly 10 minutes for the waiter to take my order
"First Time"
This was my first time on a long haul ferry and I must say, what a great experience I had. From booking through check in was simple and very efficient with no problems at any time I accept that it can be rough across the Bay of Biscay at certain times of the year, but the journey was both extremely enjoyable and comfortable. I was surprised with the presentations and entertainment to help the time go by, but with several areas ot drink and eat, and in comfort with excellent, pleasant staff to provide the service, made the journey really enjoyable. The cabin was simple but very clean and comfortable. My only regret was not knowing that I needed to book fro the evening meal in the restaurant but will do so next time. I would certainly use this service to return to the UK The cabins were basic, but clean
"Ridiculously priced budget level. Luxury no where to be seen."
Both the Pont Aven and Cap Finistere are overpriced. Club class is a joke, like staying in a cheap 80s caravan. Cafes and restaurants insanely expensive.
"Portsmouth bound!"
A trouble free journey with adequate facilites. Quality of sound in cinema could be better unlike the food and service in the restaurant which was excellent. A comfortable bed and decent shower facilities. All staff I encountered were pleasant and helpful
"Ferry ok, food is terrible"
Ferry is just ok, nothing fancy. I really don't know why these ferries cannot look more like the proper Cruising ships (Royal Carib etc)? Food onboard is disgusting, absolutely disgusting. You basically eat something that looks like a pizza that has been in a deep freezer for three years straight, the hamburger and fish and chips is ready in about 2mins which tells you what kind of stinker they are serving you. I must say again, the food on a French ferry is worse than the food you get in a dirty hotdog stand in Alabama. All in all, just about ok experience, just taking the ferry as my car is a gas guzzler and saves me driving through France, if ferry was nicer I would recommend but cannot really recommend this ferry to anyone other than as a way to avoiding a long drive
"Ferry review"
We enjoyed the trip. Beds comfortable, restaurant and catering good, and staff helpful.
"Great experience"
For the first time thought we would try the deluxe double cabins - first class and well worth the money.
"Winter sailing "
Would recommend and will use this crossing again very punctual
"Long walk with out a dog."
We've travelled on this boat a few times now, and luckily each trip as been excellent, even the sea been kind. Thats Tempting fate I know. And even this last trip was excellent all be it a bit odd. You see, for some reason, we an older couple, were placed in the section normally for pet owners this and I would guess any overflow. We just found it a bit odd, when the boats was nowhere near full, that we got placed up there. For the record we both love dogs. The cabin was fine clean and quite comfy. So the only small moan is the fact the main lift was miles away, and didn' go to deck 9. Sadly for my wife who now finds walking up stairs really difficult. At the time we didn't mention it because, to be honest, it hadn't been that bad. Sods law her complaint got really bad over the last month, and because normally you have placed on the floor easy reach of lift. Please note this is not a complaint. Just really pointing out the oddness of the situation. We now know we need to point out her health issues of which I'm sure you'll try and accommodate if possible.
" Virgin Voyage"
This was our first overnighter and we were pleasantly suprised. Everything from embarking in Portsmouth to disembarking was smooth and hassle free. Even the notoriously choppy Bay of Biscay was suprisingly flat this trip - a rareity! For a first experience, we found it faultless
"Twin room "
We travelled in December 2016 everything was great until we arrived at our inside twin cabin only to find our twin was in fact bunk bed's we checked out booking and it said twin so i trip to customer services i went to be told by a lovely French girl that is the twin realy i said but 1 is 5ft higher than the other lol. We could have up graded to a room with to sets of bunks so we could use both bottom ones around 30 extra each way. Please anyone reading this and would like a twin use a different ship or double check before booking it a good job we are both a young middle 50s ps i also dont expect an explanation of false advertising it maybe my French isn't that good. Thanks neil
"My way back "
After used the France way to went to Spain, and check the price of the French tolls and the price of fuel plus one night in a hotel on the way to arrive at our first stop in pamplona for a few dais. Travel safe , rest, nice food and have fun from Portsmouth to Santander for the same price and enjoy a few dais more of our holidays. 100%
"The sea was like a village pond"
Not the first time my trip to the UK was made on this route. As always the ship was well managed, clean & comfortable serving excellent food in the restaurant. Saves a lot of driving & cost wise there is not much difference. I have taken the Hull to Holland route twice but never again. This ferry is the one for me!
"cabins"
Overall the standard on the ferry were excellent ,however the bunk beds in the cabin are not suitable for elderly people. I am a reasonably fit and active mid seventy year old and found getting into the top bunk difficult and had the crossing been rough it would have been impossible. Another category in the age question rather than 18+ would trigger the requirement of ground floor bunks.

Very pleasant journey, good food, no problems.

"Cabin"
The ship was very nice and all very good but for one thing, NOT enough PET FRIENDLY CABINS even though I booked six months in advance.
"A tale of two crossings"
We travelled Portsmouth to Santander in November 5 on one of the older ferries and although this boat took slightly longer and had less facilities we had no complaints. The return ferry on the 3rd of December Santander to Portsmouth was a different matter. The loading of our car and that of the others was fraught with hazard done in excessive haste with lots of opportunity for the cars being damaged, we were in the level G1 and our cabin was in Level 9 with no direct access from one to the other. During the disembarking we ended up completely lost and had to have assistance by a member of staff on lorry deck G3 to take us to a set of stairs that took us back up to G4 the finally to the only set of stairs to G2 and G1 all of which was worrying and exhausting.
"Cap Finisterre and Pont Aven"
The trip out to Santander was recommendable, crew helpful, overnight cabin accommodation comfortable, food sufficient, time passed quickly. However Pont Aven was a different story. Overnight seat was uncomfortable, noisy even squeaky, a cabin would have been at extra cost, food old and unappetising, service appalling with cooks handling the fish, slapdash.
"Great trip"
Late November crossing to Santander with the car - very professional and helpful ship crew - good food/bar choices - excellent fast crossing, even though rough seas we weren't thrown about at all - very competitive price for passage and accommodation - all very good.
"very hard to book a return trip from spain ,didnt work easy in i pad, bilbao to portsmouth ,last min "
the food was not fit for a dog at the inside resterant,a child could have cooked a better breackfast,it was truly disgusting, the fry up,i mean bad,the worst iv ever seen or tasted,i would never eat on board again.
"A very comfortable and friendly crossing"
Great crew. Charming polite and sincerely friendly. I really enjoyed the trip and have no complaints at all. Many thanks. John
"Passage to Portsmouth"
Journey to Bilbao on Spanish toll road very simple - not too much traffic and good roads all the way to the port. Cap Finistere was well prepared, well equipped and had a helpful staff on our Bilbao - Portsmouth journey.
"a travelling H. O G. "
Boarding. Was straight forward and easy ,,the cabin was clean and comfortable , the staff on board were friendly and helpful , there was some very attractive french ladies working in the restaurants ,,viva france ! A good selection of food and choice ! Will travel again !

"Portsmouth and Bilbao Crossings"
Enjoyable trip with pleasant entertainment. Crew and bar staff very helpful and at hand when needed.
"enjoyable journey"
A very nice trip. The cabin was very comfortable and the crew helpfull
"Another fab trip to Spain on Brittany ferries "
We have done the 24 hour crossing from Portsmouth to Santander twice now and it is a great way to start the holiday. We take our motor home and the crossing gives us a 24hr reprieve from driving. The facilities have been excellent each time and service great. The cabins are nice and comfortable and food in the al a Carte restaurant is as good as many top restaurants we have visited. Staff very attentive and A good price for a 3 course meal.
"first timers"
First time on an over night ferry. We loved it.
"Welcome aboard"
Overall this ferry is very high standards. Especially the restaurant which serves amazingly good food for something being prepared in a galley! I have used the ferry 5 times but this time didn't book early enough and ended up with a basic inside cabin. Would recommend booking early and trying for a higher standard and outside cabin. The trip can be quite tedious as its 24 hrs on a boat but the crew are very friendly and helpful.
"Enjoyable crossing !"
Food excellent !
"Excellant trip"
This was the first time that my wife and I had experienced a long ferry trip (only been to France before). The check-in was very stress-free, unlike airports! and the journey out was very smooth. Even though we were on what was classed as an "Economy" boat, the cabin was very comfortable and relaxing during the voyage was very easy. The duty free shop was very good value and we could pay in sterling as well. The journey back was on a much larger boat, the Cap Finistere; if you can, opt for this one - real cut above the economy boat on the way out. The food in the restaurant was superb and the service also. Again a smooth trip back and easy boarding and disembarkation. I would recommend this way to travel over an airline, if you have the time.
"Pleasant trip"
This was a good voyage - I was travelling with friends so no lack of company for dinner or during the day. I had a cabin to myself, very comfortable too.
"unprofessional bartender and unsatisfactory complaint resolution"
The ship was fine and the journey was smooth. The cabin was comfortable, if a little small for two people. There were signs of mould in the shower area. My main grievances are that vegetarian food is seen as an afterthought and that I was treated extremely rudely by one particular bartender. It was very difficult to eat anything of a comparable quality to the meat and fish dishes that were on offer. We ate pizza, which as pizzas go, was very good. We were hoping for something a bit more nutritious but they had either run out of the salads or there was no other option. The breakfasts were beautifully laid out but there was no choice of cereal, milk or pastries. We had to wait for a table even though there were several empty tables in the restaurant and there were few staff to ask for anything once we sat down to eat. We also had to wait to pay because there was no-one available until a queue formed. I was so upset about one particular bartender that I lodged a complaint. The restaurant manager came and apologised on his behalf whilst I was filling in my cause for complaint on a customer feedback form but the emphasis was on the good character of his colleague rather than my grievance. The bartender followed soon after to apologise. I was never at any time offered any kind of compensation. I explained that I was trying to order a cocktail from him when he saw fit to interrupt my request by speaking in French to one of his colleagues who had appeared at the side of me. He had not excused himself. It was in the middle of our conversation and I walked off, telling him that he was extremely rude. No-one had thought to apologise until I sat down to put my complaint in writing, which was some time after. I travelled on 27 August and, as yet, I am still awaiting a response to my complaint by Brittany Ferries. I was assured by a member of staff on the Information Desk that someone would be in touch and I left my email address in the hope that this would be done quickly. I paid premium rate to travel with Brittany Ferries and I am very disappointed with this poor service.
"Going Home"
Generally a good trip, would have appreciated fresh coffee outlet in Le Cafe rather than a machine and provide yoghurt in the breakfast area not just available on the 7th floor.
"Very pleasant trip"
Comfortable cabin. Great dinner in the main restaurant. Very helpful crew.
"Pleasant journey"
Food was very good, shops adequate, the cabin was comfortable, the shower nice and hot and sleeping was no problem. The only negative was that there was a persistent smell of urine around the toilet - possibly not properly cleaned or maybe it leaked. Cabin 872 I think (number ended in 72, I'm sure, it was on Level 8)
"Great as ever....and we saw whales"
Great trip....great staff.....saw some whales which made it even better. See you next year.
"Trip to Spain"
Excellent crossing both ways. We ate in the restaurant on each journey and it was excellent. Sandwiches in Le Petit Marche not so good. Return to vehicle was chaotic we queued for time on the stairs could be better organised to avoid this.
"General on passage Bilbao to Portsmouth on Cap de Finistaire"
Excellent crossing, comfortable and well run ship
"Portsmouth to Santander and return"
Really enjoyable trip, taking our camper to the Pico's mountain on the ferry endured we arrived in zsantander refreshed and chilled. The ferry was the first day of the holiday. Cabins were really comfortable and the were plenty of choices re food ranging from the super market to the restauraunt. Will definitely use this route again and head to the Pyrenees😀
"A love of boats "
We loved our trip despite the fact that acedently booked bunk beds and at 71 years was glad I was fit enough to climb. Seeing the dolphins was amazing.
"Good Experience"
Found the whole experience from loading to disembarkation on both vessels wholly satisfactory. The catering facilities in particular are worthy of mention, the meal I had in the Al a Carte restaurant on Cap Finistère was one of the best of the whole 2 week holiday in Spain. The staff were also very efficient and friendly.
"Portsmouth to Bilbao Ferry"
What a fantastic experience, we had a great trip. Thanks to all the staff who were friendly and polite.
"Great crossing"
Great facilities and activities to help keep kids amused virtually the whole journey
"ferry trip"
excellent trip from Bilbao to Portsmouth more like a cruise ship than a ferry only improvement would be a softer mattress
"An excellent voyage"
We enjoyed a trouble -free journey, with good weather and convivial company. You can see from our gradings that we could not fault any aspect of our experience. Staff are to be congratulated on ensuring a most pleasurable trip
"Smooth, enjoyable crossing"
Very well organised in all respects. Breakfast in the restaurant was excellent. But wish we had known about the soup being served from the bar. Would have been great for supper the night before. It should have been served in the Petit Marche. Otherwise, would highly recommend.
"Great way to getting to Spain."
From start to finish there were no complaints. We were surprised at the cabin, being more than adequate. We ate late evening in the restaurant and the food was really good. The staff were very helpful and the boat nice and clean. All in all, a good experience to start how holiday.
"First ferry trip "
We had a very pleasant trip from Portsmouth to Santander on Brittany Ferries. The ship was comfortable and the cabin was also clean and comfy. There were good restaurant and snack bar. On this ferry there was a cinema. The return ferry was smaller than the outgoing ferry. Food good.
"Portsmouth to Bilbao"
Trip was fine, but disappointed to have to pay and additional £10 at ferry port. This was because we had two bikes on our Motorhome, even after we had already included them in the application length!
"Spring trip the Picos de Europa"
Had a pleasant though choppy return trip to Spain. The cabins we stayed in were nice, clean and comfortable, staff were friendly and helpful and the ship has some great facilities. There are comfortable seating areas, good restaurants, cinema, bars so all in all a nice experience.
"Cap finistier"
Very clean and comfortable, food in restaurant excellent and reasonable price, spacious in all areas even with full capacity. Loading of vehicles efficient, appears slow at times but is inevitable with high numbers.
"trip home"
from the moment we arrived at the port we were very impressed with the help and information from staff, although the ship was delayed due to a technical fault we were kept informed via mobile and given vouchers for tea, water and choclate from the port shop. the cabin was very clean and comfy and the en-suite was of a very good standard. the facilities on board ship were of a good standard and we were kept informed of the entertainment available. we would defininately travel with brittany ferries again
"Brilliant ship"
A tres bien experience, crew fantastic, food tasty and we'll presented. Entertainment 1st class. Ship clean and we'll maintained. All in all a fabulous crossing and so relaxing.
"Bilbao to portsmouth"
Enjoyed our trip to and from Portsmouth, staff were very helpful and friendly. Everything ran very smoothly embarking and disembarking. Can recommend this service with confidence.
"Ferry Trip"
Good journey as we left on time and arrived on time. Food in the restaurant very good. Chips from the cafe not good.
"portsmouth santander"
Clean ship, well organised. Plenty of facilies. A very comfortable journey. We are glad that the whale watching continues.
"portsmouth bilbao"
Really enjoyed the journey with Brittany Ferries the service was excellent. staff were very pleasant. I was very impressed with everything throughout the journey. I would use the company again and would recommend to friends and family. The restaurant was fantastic. Hope to use the company again i went with work but would certainly be going for leisure purpose next time.
"Excellent trip"
Everything about our trip on Cap Finistere was perfect .Excellent.
"Journey out"
Everything that you could wish for and more.Ship extremely well designed, staff could not have been more accommodating .An excellent start to our golden wedding anniversary holiday.
"Simple efficiency"
A good trip, lucky with the weather, a calm ride, slept like a baby, great service, decent food though a little expensive, watched a film, ferry tickets were a bit expensive, overall a very good experience.
"Cap Finistere to Bilbao"
An enjoyable trip in spite of some heavy weather on the way. Entertainment was good, ensuite cabin clean and comfortable and we enjoyed the food. The journey is 24 hours so you get quite used to the facilities on board. We would happily consider this route again.
"Great crossong"
First time we have done this crossing with Brittany. Impressed with the smooth operation, very organised from the minute we got to Bilbao docks to the minute we got off at Portsmouth. Very clean, things to do, plenty of seating. Very smooth crossing, which is of course in the hands of the gods, but we both slept like logs. Food was good quality. Our only niggle was having to book dinner by (I think) 1.30. Firstly, we didn't know whether we wanted dinner or not until later in the day, and secondly there was no dinner menu available at that time to help us decide. (Unless we couldn't find it, but if so why not?) So we didn't bother! We would probably have eaten dinner if we could have booked a bit later and had some knowledge of what was available.
"Cap Finistere 24. 5 15"
Smooth sailing, highly recommended.
"Good Crossing."
A very pleasant 24 hours. I saw whales & dolphins! There were a variety of activities on offer as well as films to pass the time. Cabins were small but perfectly adequate. The meals I had on board were good. Be aware if you have mobility issues that the parking spaces will be tight and access to all doors will not always be possible.
"HAPPY HOLIDAY"
My wife and I chose to travel from Portsmouth to Bilbao on the Cap Finistere from 21st to 23rd December because we wanted to enjoy the two night voyage and the comfort of a Club Class cabin. We were not disappointed. The ship was well appointed, the crew were most welcoming and the restaurants provided excellent meals. In all, we very much enjoyed our voyage on the Cap Finistere and would certainly wish to repeat the experience sometime in the future.
"Cap Finistere"
This crossing was much better than the Santander to Portsmouth crossing under taken 2 weeks previous. The food was good but eating out on deck was cold and windy. The alternative was to eat A la Carte in the main restaurant. The cabin on deck 9 was spacious and very clean.
"Bilbao-Portmouth"
Overall good
"Enjoyed the trip."
Great ship and cabins ok for 2. Staff are very nice and food quality very good as are the prices, the best I have had on a ferry.
"Bilbao to Portsmouth Nov 2014"
The staff were all very helpful and polite. We had a problem as we had inadvertently booked bunk beds, inappropriate for elderly people with arthritis! However we were able to transfer to a 4 berth cabin with 2 lower berths. The restaurant was very good, but portions were too large for small appetites. Less carbohydrate and more vegetables would have been appreciated (I have diabetes and have a restricted diet). Public address system was mostly useless as messages were indistinct and, in the cabin, too feint to be heard. We expect to use Brittany Ferries again on our next journey to the UK.
"Stairway congestion"
All very good only problem was when people were told to go to their vehicles it got very congested on stairways as lower doors were opened before deck 6 door.
"Great"
I suffer with travel sickness but I was able to eat and drink the whole journey was a pleasure .
"best way to go"
Right from the start it all went well.professionaly dealt with, accurately placed on board, close to a lift as requested.cabins lovely with fruit and goodies.dinner a real treat excellent food, wine, service, and a table by a window.the same on the return journey.well done brittany ferries.
"Portsmouth - Bilbao, 5.10.14"
Very pleasant experience. Travelling by motorcycle I found the docks clearly marked and check in easy. Loading was rather slow (& cold, hanging around dockside!) but to be expected. Loading well organised, and once parked found my well appointed cabin. The journey was long (33 hrs) but 2 overnights give time to collect ones thoughts in comfort and with good provision for reasonably priced restaurant or snack facilities. Unloading easy and quick. Overall good experience.
"Relaxing "
It was a lovely trip, so good we've booked for next year already, it was a very overnight passage relaxing preparing us for the onward journey.
"Good ship out , basic one back "
The ferry out from Portsmouth was mostly good, the wifi signal is quite poor, and the evening entertainment was very limited, but otherwise is was good. More choice of films would be good. Would be good if the smokers were restricted to just one area of the ship, as there were a lot of smokers at the deck bar, some with cigars. The ferry back was economie, we booked based on time and date , hadn't realised it was such a basic ship, it was overall fine, but we didn't realise the shop would be just a kiosk. Would have been good to know ahead of the trip so we could shop before we boarded . Thr economy ship is ok for a couple but would be awful with children. It remains a very expensive option compared to flying, but was overall fine . Difficult to do score below as both ships varied significantly
"Comfortable crossing"
Easy check in and efficient boarding. Cabins very clean and adequate for an overnight crossing. Restaurant areas are rather cramped with serving staff struggling to serve tables although speed of service is good and food well presented.
"Interesting 24 hours"
For those who do not like the airplane or prefer to travel with their own car or motorcycle to England, the alternative of crossing by ferry is interesting. The crossing is not too heavy, there is a wifi area I think is the most cozy lounge on the ship, there are terraces for sunbathing, a swim or drink a beer. The lounge bars at seventh floor are very comfortable.
"Let down by quality of internet"
I thought it was a good overall experience and would use it again, but the internet speed was absolutely woeful. I appreciate it would not be close to land based services, but even on the least demanding apps (e-mail etc) it was virtually unuseable most of the time, this was in the cabin AND in the wi-fi hotspot areas. Unless a useable speed can be maintained, I would prefer it if you stated that Internet is not availble on board at all.
"Surprised and delighted"
We had not travelled on a cross channel ferry since the early 80's and we were pleasantly surprised to discover that things had changed. The cabin was far bigger and more comfortable than we had ever imagined and the shower was great. The restaurant menu was imaginative, delicious and reasonably priced and we were kept entertained with distractions as diverse as "Whale Watching" and "Sangria Tasting". The ferry was bang on time and the whole 24 hour experience was a delight.
"Bilbao to Portsmouth"
Dog area spread over into other areas. Smell overpowering. Lack of outdoor sitting areas. I would seek to travel on a no dog ship.
"Our mini trip voyage"
For a nice change there was no strikes this year. Cleanliness was good. Food was reasonable. Be warned do not use euro's on board, you get a rate of approx; 75 cents to the £, RIP OFF. This is the only ferry to southern Spain, there is no competition from P & O as there used to be.
"Portsmouth to Santander. May 2014"
A very comfortable and amazingly quiet trip. All the crew were extremely helpful and pleasant and the boat was clean and well maintained. Cleaning went on as we travelled where necessary. I would recommend this company and this rip to anyone.
"Enjoyable trip"
All was fine. Food amazing and staff friendly.
"Happy"
Spent a day and a night on the ferry, the staff were all very helpful and polite. The cabin was clean and comfortable, a little confusing to find but eventually managed to remember the way. Thoroughly enjoyed the meal in the restaurant, the food was excellent, staff attentive, could not have asked for better. Would certainly recommend to friends and travel again. Thank you.
"Pleasant crossing"
Although the departure from Bilbao was late due to bad weather conditions at Portsmouth we had a very good crossing and docked much earlier than anticipated. We had a lovely meal in the restaurant and all staff were very pleasant.
"Pleasure travellinf with Brittany Ferries "
The journewas short, the cabin was comfortable, loads of toilets and very pleasant staff. I have recommended this journey to my friends and I would do it again if I travel by car to UK.
"Trip to Santander"
It is to remark the excellent staff competence, made my trip a pleasure.
"Trip to Santander"
It is to remark the excellent staff competence, made my trip a pleasure.
"PORTSMOUTH SANTANDER"
GOOD CROSSING BOTH WAYS. CHOPPY SEA. PROBLEM WITH CINEMA. FRIENDLY STAFF.
"Bilbao - Portsmouth 28/01/2014"
Hard to express how impressed we were with the ship, its light decor, cleanliness, comfort of the cabins, but mostly the customer service we received from all the staff on board. The quality and service and presentation in the restaurant (full breakfast and full dinner)surpassed many 5 star London restaurants. All very good value too.
"Most recent trip"
Excellent travelling experience. Liked the L shaped bunk layout in our allocated cabin.
"Opinion"
Hello, My travelling experience was very nice. The ship was very good, everything was clean, all the staff very nice. An easy way to travel between UK and Spain, especially for does who wan't to come to Portugal. The only thing I recommend you change is the mattress from the cabinet, was the only bad thing I encountered in the ship that didn't like. Best regards.
"A very good trip"
I enjoyed my time on board. I had a standard cabin and it was very comfortable. The facilities on board were fine and the entertainment was good. I wish the WiFi access was wider, but apart from that everything was ok.
"Bilbao-Portsmouth"
The ship, staff and facilities were just as I expected, this was my second trip and both have gone well. It's a good way to travel although a little expensive. I would do it again.
"first time"
First time on a Brittany Ferry, thought it would be boring being on a ship so long, but it was very much better than I thought. The staff were very pleasant, there was a good variety of food and the prices were very reasonable. Overall I would travel this way again.
"Portsmouth - Bilboa October 2013"
We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Our cabin was good, food in the restaurant lovely and when we had a slight problem it was resolved promptly.
"9th September"
Nice clean and friendly ship, comfortable room and service. Only real comment was difficulty experienced in accessing the internet, very good that it was a free service but annoying being unable to get a decent connection as it would have been a nice opportunity to update the family and friends as to our return. Regards Steve
"Wonderful"
The trip was enjoyed by myself and my accompanying passengers. The service we received by the staff was polite and precise. It was a wonderful trip. Thank you.
"Feedback"
We found the Cap Finistere very comfortable and practical. We were able to upgrade our cabin on the return trip which was very helpful. The only downside was the restaurant was very expensive as was the bar and will only encourage passengers to bring their own food and drink. All staff were very helpful and polite.
"Santander to Portsmouth-Portsmouth to Santander"
As I live in Spain I have found this ferry service very good it works out better than traveling up through France. The staff on board are friendly and professional. Have used both Ferries and both good, we were on the Cap Finestral the smaller of the two but I prefer the Pont-Aven as this has a choice of two restaurants self service or go to the large main restaurant for set meals whereas the former only has main restaurant with a small café for sandwiches, however don't let this put you off. The Cabins are clean and comfy but the 2 berth are a bit cramped. The journey back well that's a different story I missed the ferry by a day, Went to the booking desk at Portsmouth explained the problem and they got us onto another ferry albeit to Caen in France then had a very long drive ahead of me.This was at no extra cost just a strait swap plus it was cheaper so I lost the difference will check my dates carefully next time.
"great trip"
Other than 2 hours delayed due to engine trouble it was an excellent trip.
"Great End to a Brilliant Holiday "
After a challenging 3000mile Motorcycle trip around France, Andora, Spain and Portugal with my 12 year daughter, in at times 40 degree plus heat the luxury of relaxed 24hour ferry home to the UK was really appreciated. The swimming pool one of the highlights, spotting a pair of Minke whales the highlight; everything else was good too. We will be back and with the whole family next time!
"Journey to Santander 5/7/13"
We were very pleased at the accommodation in the internal cabin, and the communal areas were comfortable, staff were friendly and efficient. My concerns lie in two areas. Firstly the choice and quality of the food in the restaurant was poor, with the exception of the cheese board. Secondly I felt that the announcements giving information about disembarkation was very late, was difficult to hear and unclear.
"First time travel with Brittany Ferries"
The overall experience was very good. We slept very well, the cabin was great. My only complaint is that breakfast or dinner should have been included at least in the price as the price for food was very high and the food was ok. I would bring my own food in future as far as I am concerned for a family of 3, it was extrememly expensive for a 24 hour trip having to buy 4 meals!
"Portsmouth to Bilbao with Brittany Ferries"
Having experienced a few crossings with Brittany Ferries using this route, we know what to expect and in general are satisfied with the facilities and services provided. The basic cabins with outside views are fine, not large by any means but room enough for two people and the mattresses on the beds, although quite firm, are comfortable to sleep on. The bed linen is always clean as are the duvets and pillows. Two pillows for each bed would make sleeping more comfortable for some of us. The bathroom facilities are good, with the shower having excellent water pressure. The towels provided are adequate but could do with being renewed as they tend to be thin and threadbare in places. Cleanliness within the cabin is adequate although there could be a little more attention to detail. The facilites throughout the ship are good as is the cleanliness. In general, the staff are friendly and helpful but service in the bars and eating areas could be improved, there seems to be a little too much time spent with staff chatting amongst themselves rather than serving their customers, which can be frustrating.
"Living the dream"
Cabin was very small and cramped, rest of the ship was very good.
"Good apart from!"
A good trip overall apart from being shouted at by one of the staff directing traffic in Portsmouth because I stopped to avoid a collision because he was directing two vehicle's into one lane at the same time.
"Slippery when wet"
The journey and ferry were OK. However, doing the trip with a motorbike has some risks. Motorbikes are stored on Deck 1. You have to take ramp in and out of that deck. During unloading, water pours in and makes the ramp (and general floor on deck 1) very slippery. You might consider storing your bike on a higher (dry!) deck.
"Quiet"
A quiet trip and good services.
"Trying a new route"
Can't complain about anything, it all went as planned. Crossing a bit rough to begin with, but nothing to harp on about. Beds were really really hard. That is the only down side.
"Cap Finistere"
The ship is lovely but there are problems with the Dining facilities. The Restaurants are really only available for " people in the know" who have had a previous experience of this ship. If you think you would like to eat a little later, you will probably find no available tables due to the rush to book as soon as possible, from people in the know! And once you have missed getting an available slot, that is it! There is then only The Market Place to shop for a snack type meal. We did get a table by the skin of our teeth, but saw many other people after us, disappointed. Unfortunately, although the staff were very pleasant, we then experienced a long delay before our soup course & again with our dessert. It was a set meal & the courses just appeared to have been forgotten! Luckily, when it did arrive, the food was superb! The boarding organisation was very good and efficient & I have no complaints about that. I will be using Brittany Ferries again but will try to get on the Pont Avon instead of the Cap Finistere in future.
"Santander to Portsmouth"
Nothing but praise for comfort, food, cleanliness and friendly service
"Pont Aven"
Overall very good. We had a cabin which is a lot better than the reclining chairs. We enjoyed the live entertainment
"Trip to and from Bilbao and Portsmouth"
This is the second time my husband and I have done this trip and both times we have thoroughly enjoyed it. Very relaxing and prepared us for our long journey after disembarking at both ports. Even the entertainment is so easy going. Also full marks to the staff and ferry crew for doing such a good job.
"Voyage on Cap Finistere"
This ship was great everything you need for a 24 hour crossing, but the bay of Biscay was very rough.
"Morocco trip"
Great experience for the beginning an end of an off road expedition in Morocco. Relaxing start, relaxing end, Well done.
"Our Trip"
This was the first time we had decided to travel back home to Spain by ship as opposed to travelling the whole way through France, it was a very good and enjoyable experience and one we will do again. The cabin was very clean and comfortable and the bathroom was really well laid out will a brilliant shower. The facilities on board were very good and the staff friendly and helpful, now the only downside first i thought the cost to get the internet was very expensive and secondly which to be fair is not the fault of the shipping line, was when we left the ship and arrived at the dock exit the police there were sending everyone onto the A67 which is not the road we wanted and as we were strangers it didn't help at all.
"Adventure for retired zoologists"
An old university friend and I chose to travel overnight to save a day on our trip. Next time we would choose a cabin with 2 beds, rather than the bunks, as we over estimated our ability to hop onto the top bunk! Our only complaint was the lack of staff at the checkouts in the Self -Service restaurant at breakfast on the return journey
"My experience,lots of times"
For the money we pay it would be nice to include some light meals and some drinks as well, like many other Ferries! I do travel quite a lot with a van to Spain and France. Some Ferries are not as nice as yours, but you get food, very basic food but nice!
"Back to Sweden"
The second stage of our journey we went through Brittany Ferrys. We had no problems with our booking or with the check in. The cabin had a bad smell on the toilet. The service was excellent but a new chef would be good, as the food didn't reached our excecptations. The entertainment abroad was only meant to the brittish passengers, not for the other ones like us. We arrived in time but it took a while for us to get out with the car from deck space 1.
"disappointed by the cap finistere"
We have travelled many times with our motorhome in the Pont Aven and were looking forward to returning from Spain in the Cap Finistere. We did not enjoy it. The dock near Bilbao is a gloomy quayside with no facilities and nothing to do (compare Santander where you can enjoy visiting the town while you wait for ferry). Loading vehicles took a long time, as did disembarkation: motorhomes were loaded on a deck above the main entry deck so we had to turn round twice on loading, and once on unloading. Unloading took 45 minutes in Portsmouth. The cabin was good and a nice shower room but the mattresses were lamentable and the pillows a disgrace. I agree with anonymous review below: the catering arrangements are very odd. A shop which sells cold dishes which you then have to microwave yourself; a cafeteria on a freezing cold semi open deck or the usual Brittany expensive restaurant. We had breakfast in the restaurant which was nicely presented but the full breakfast was luke warm. We will try to avoid the Cap Finistere and the Bilbao departure in future.
"Great experience!"
Thoroughly enjoyed the sailing all went smoothly! Staff very friendly and helpful from booking until we disembarked. Food and entertainment on board very good. Will definately travel this way again. Its a much easier trip to Southern Spain. Much prefer this route, better than driving from Calais!
"Trip 2013"
The trip was very good. Entertainment not very good.
"Not as good as Pont Aven!"
Having previously travelled on the Pont Aven, the Finestere was a bit of a let down. The catering on board was woeful by comparison, offering only an expensive a la carte restaurant whose prices didn't live up to the average quality of the food, snacks such as sandwiches & on the cold & draughty deck 10, an adequate but quite uninspiring canteen & the sound of the dogs whining in their kennels. The Pont Aven offered much better quality & value in their excellent restaurant. I would use it again but only because my travel requirements gave me no choice. The Pont Aven is far superior.
"Lost property"
Having recently sailed with Cap Finistere I have to say I found the boat and facilities excellent and yes I would recommend sailing in it. Unfortunately I cannot say the same for any after service I.e. lost property. I left a small mascot (toy lamb) behind the curtain on the ledge in cabin 9068. I realised I had left it within hours of disembarking and immediately phoned the lost property number. I consequently contacted Brittany Ferries customer services offering a reward, they have not even bothered to reply.
"Our trip to spain on the Cap Finistere"
We went by ferry to spain on this particular journey as we normally drive and have not used the ferry before. We were impressed with the size of our cabin and the en suite facilities. They had a good selection of restaurants on board at reasonable prices. Lots of entertainment on board to pass the time. In the past we have always driven on this long journey to spain, but we will now be travelling with Brittany Ferries in the future as it made out trip a lot more relaxing!
"Good trip from Spain"
Sailed with Brittany on the Cap Finistere back from Spain by car with 3 friends. We'd booked a commodore cabin which was well worth the additional expense. Thought overall we got great value for money and encountered good staff and great facilities and more than happy with the food on offer in the restaurant both at dinner and breakfast.
