"Good service!"
The Normandy Express is a new and very clean ship. The personal was very friendly. Birding was quick. However, we regret there was no restaurant in board. Thanks!
"Fast crossing and good service"
Excellent service with one issue. The directions to the ferry terminal In Portsmouth cannot be opened from the booking website. That needs to be corrected urgently
"Cherbourg to Portsmouth"
Couldn't fault staff or facilities. Unfortunately a rough trip due to weather conditions and a lot of sick people on board, particularly children. Staff went over and above to help people out. Would do it again.
"NORMANDIE EXPRESS"
We really enjoy the crossings on this vessel. We find them comfortable quick and facilities more than adequate. We will continue using it in the future.
"All good but prepare to use your sea sick bag"
Ir it wasn’t for the sea sickness half way through it would have been a perfect crossing
"Waiting to bosrd"
Having arrived before the opening of the check-in (3rd in the queue) we were almost last to board a full ferry back from Cherbourg even though we were driving a conventional car and no roof rack or trailer. It should be possible to devise a more 'democratic' boarding system?
"Quick"
Very quick time to get across to France, cars put too close together!
"Lovely quick crossing"
Lovely crossing - quick and easy boarding and deboarding. Comfortable seating. Having problem obtaining refund from Direct Ferries though, after changing our dates - and yes I had paid cancellation fee. Did all online so hope customer services comes up trumps soon!
"Breakfast offering is woeful"
Recent trip on the Normandy Express was a reasonable trip on time etc. The breakfast offerings were however woeful... mash potato on a breakfast plate? The quality was certainly not t9 the standards we have come to expect from other Brittany routes/ferries and day and night difference to our return journey cherbourg to poole. Not great Brittany if people are travelling before 8am at least try to give them some decent breakfast foods, often they have travelled a distance to get to the port, and having a captive audience is not an excuse for such poor standards at inflated prices. The ferries are by no means cheap please don't take the proverbial once on board.
"Always a great start to our holiday"
We have travelled with Brittany ferries for many years and book through Dire t Ferries. It’s simple! This year we took our dog for the first time. Again simple and smooth.
"Smooth and efficient crossing."
Superb crossing, super quick loading and we left 15 mins early! Unloading equally as efficient, I was off and on the road 10mins before the scheduled docking time, so can’t ask for better than that! Crew helpful and friendly and food reasonably priced.
"Very reasonable "
Pretty good service. Food ok for overnight journey. Obviously cabin very small but sufficient for 1 person. Not really any advantage paying extra for porthole ( I did for outbound) as there’s another large window the other side which isn’t particularly crystal clear. Facilities reasonable, cabin cleaned to a good standard, although on inbound I was 1 of many who had to wait a while for cabin to be made ready, after long motorcycle journey and battling the heat in parking deck not what you want. Overall far better than trudging down motorway in France if Spain is your destination.
"Holiday ferry"
My trip on the catermaran was very choppy going out and the staff were very helpful to passengers feeling the worse for ware. The trip back was smooth and the crossing is quick so if you are not a good traveller it’s over with very wuickly
"Ferry from st Malo to portsmouth"
A fantastic end to our holiday. Amazing entertainment including a pantomime for the kids and we arrive an hour early! Can’t fault it.
"Travel "
Speedy and clean !,
"Fast and efficient "
Great service, crossing was fast and very organised in terms of getting vehicles on and off both sides. Would recommend .
"Efficient and quick"
A very satisfactory trip, providing all that one would expect from a cross channel ferry.
"Fast, Efficient and clean - recommend"
Fast, efficient and clean - would recommend
"Direct Ferries on 28 hour 2 day crossing (Mon/Tues)"
we had never heard of Direct ferries so we were relived when we sailed straight through on boarded etc. We had no issues at all and thought the ticket was extremely well priced. I would have been nice to know that one should turn off their alarm - as I had no time to look this up hence had to leave the car unlocked. But I would use this crossing again.
"Brittany Ferries don't recycle !"
I was shocked to find not recycling facilities on either journey that I went on. One of toilets didn't flush and when I told a member of staff they knew but didn't seem concerned enough to get a notice up on the door... I hope they did.
"Comfortable journey "
Loading/unloading was hassle free, from checking at Portsmouth all the way the staff were cheerful and helpful. Comfortable seating.
"Feed-back from récent trip on normandy express"
Nice Journey, comfortable seats and good Customer service at cafe. Good range of food and good quality breakfast and meals. However on return journey foot passengers were asked to stay seated until further information to disembark. An elderly couple were anxious to Know which exit to use and were told to wait until they heard further information. Nothing happened for 10 mins and only when somebody asked again were we told to move over to the back of the ferry. Noboby went back to this couple to Tell them directly or directed them towards the exit and had to be told by other passengers. We were late to leave Cherbourg by 30mins but there were no announcement about it or reasons Why.
"Fantastic crossing"
This was my first ferry crossing in 20 years! Wow!!! I was so impressed by the boarding team and how they organised all the cars, the information on board, the seating, the little shop and the choice of food and drink!! I wont wait another 20yrs to repeat the experience!! 3 hrs went by very quick. Easy to check in and not too long to get through UK boarder.
"Missed ferry"
DON'T MISS YOUR FERRY We had a car breakdown and a stolen bag. We missed our ferry because our car was not ready on time and were unable to phone ahead as our mobiles were in the stolen bag. We had hoped we might have had a discount for our return home but had to pay £137 making our return journey costing £258.
"Normandie express booking through Direct Ferries"
Hi had a great trip on Brittany ferries smooth, got away on time no complaints. The only thing I would like to flag up is my disappointment with booking with Direct Ferries because we wanted to change our crossing back home and contacted Brittany ferries who said that although possible, we had to go back and change through our agent Direct ferries. However, as it was fairly last minute I couldn't do this online with Direct Ferries and I had to call their number. After at least 8 phone calls and holding for ages listening to the most frustrating music we couldn't get through and ended up having to come back on the ferry we had originally booked on. So next time I think I will book direct with Brittany. Apart from that no complaints! Ferries because at least they are contactable.!
"Good experience "
Fast crossing in comfort without much waiting around
"Happy crossing"
Both ways went very smoothly, even left early and were on time despite the stormy weather on Sunday 30th July
"Impressed"
I can't really fault anything and was actually quite impressed with the quality of service !! Very friendly attentive staff , clean modern ship , fast service - great all round :)
"Ferry crossing "
Good service at a good price
"Brittany Ferries treatment of disabled people stinks!"
Brittany Ferries treatment of disabled people stinks! Picture the scene the packed passenger hall slowly empties and 2 passengers are left behind. One is a disabled child in a wheelchair. She starts crying when she realises she won’t be getting on the ferry to Cherbourg and see her dad who is already there. Her mum is powerless, she argues and pleads with Dominic and then the slightly aggressive manageress at the check-in desk and then with John the duty manger who reluctantly arrives. But no the answer is the same, we arrived at 08.10, for a 09.00 crossing, so we are too late to board. Even though I have a booking confirmation from the direct ferries website in my hand that clearly states that the child is a wheelchair user and latest check-in for us is 45minutes prior to departure. The attitude from Brittany Ferries staff is a shrug ‘you were informed that you had to be there at 08.00 to get on a minibus to board’, and so a shrug and ‘tough’. Sure we can go on the next ferry to Caen, 90 minues drive away from Cherbourg if we are lucky enough to find accessible transport, or come back again the following day. So a taxi ride back home and then back again the next morning. The cost is enormous- in hurt, upset, and that we were made to feel like an inconvenience, and never mind about the loss of a day of our holiday.
"Crossing from Portsmouth to Cherbourg and return "
We were very impressed with both crossings, the efficiency of loading and unloading cars was the best we have experienced and the speed of the crossing was excellent. On board was comfortable and very clean. Thank you Brittany Ferries
"Be prepared for a dash to Caen"
Arrived at Cherbourg for the 17.00 sailing. We were told that the ferry was cancelled and given an alternative sailing from Caen. Don't worry we were told, the sailing is being held up for you. I enquired how long the sailing was being held up and was told "2 hours or uñtil the ferry is full.". "Drive quickly" A fellow passenger said that this was the third time that it had happened to him!! A 90 mile dash during rush hour was tramatic but we made it with minutes to spare. Crossing was fine and staff excellent. Food very good. Shame about the cancelled sailing.
"Useless Direct Ferries"
Arrived in Portsmouth in time for ferry and there was a problem with one of our passports which took time to sort out with French customs. Spent the whole hour trying to get in touch with Direct Ferries both by phone and on line. The phone was just put on wait and we kept getting told that they were very busy and just to go on line or keep holding. Useless. Get some staff! I assume that because Direct Ferries were "SO BUSY" was because they were not dealing with other problems either. By the time I got through on line (I wonder....) it was just after sailing time and it said in more polite words "Bugger off you are getting no money back, no transfers to a different later boat so go away." Brittany Ferries tried very hard to transfer us to another of their boats but the booking was locked in by Direct Ferries and Brittany were unable to do so. The end result of this was a loss of the Ferry cost and a loss of the apartment fee for our accommodation. Thank you very much Direct Ferries, you have lost a customer and this review is going on the net. I will recommend Brittany Ferries because of their efforts but will not recommend Direct Ferries to anybody because because they made themselves impossible to get hold of in the crucial threequarters of an hour before sailing.
"Perfect trip"
Very impressed by the way the cars are loaded and unloaded so quickly
"Crap Internet - once again"
Once again as it always is the "free internet" was so bad as to be unusable. In fact initially I could not even log in to it as it asks you for a code from your boarding card which was on the internet - so how could I get hold of that then ?? Furthermore, if you book via the internet their is no internet code in any case !!! This has being going on for years and IMHO it's almost dishonest for Brittany Ferries to claim they offer 'free internet' when it never works.
"Trip to Normandy"
A really pleasant experience. The booking procedure was slick and quick and boarding the same. A quick and pleasant crossing at an affordable reasonable price. The food onboard was okish if a little on the pricey side but can someone explain to the French that the English dont have mashed potatoe with a full English Breakfast!!
"Breakfast Disappointment"
My compliments to BF on their logistical organisation. Everything went well on outward and inward journeys - except the dreadful 'catering' facilities. The 'English Breakfast' looked absolutely awful. I was expecting better after a trip on BF some years earlier. Will be taking my own food in future and just hope they can provide better coffee (i did have a croissant which was dry and unappetising). My 75 year old sister even got 'ticked off' by a counter assistant for not saying Good Morning before ordering food.
"A lovely return trip"
All went well in both directions. Staff were attentive and there were enough around to prevent queuing for reshreshments etc. It helped that the channel was like a mill pond. Good fast route via Cherbourg for us. We will use this route again for Brittany holiday travel and when going to Le Mans.
"cherbourg to portsmouth"
the ship was fine. except it was cherbourg to poole The problem was that the boat was cancelled while I was waiting for it. So I had to wait around for eight hours. Most unsatisfactory
"Fastcat Facts"
The boarding, crossing and arrival went well, and I would recommend it to travellers to Cherbourg, however, the 'free shuttle bus to the Centre Ville does not go anywhere near the centre, and leaves you in the middle of nowhere with a good kilometre to walk (with all your luggage) to get to town. Get a taxi every time, especially if you have luggage.
"Quick Hassle Free"
Quick hassle free crossings both out and return. Very friendly helpful efficient staff. I would have no hesitation in recommending The Normandie Express to anyone.
"Normandy Express"
We had a very pleasant crossing to Cherbourg. The vessel is comfortable, and the staff are polite and helpful.
"Trip to France"
Excellent sailing conditions, very fast and efficient getting on and off the ferry. Comfortable seats on board, very clean. Only downside was on a 3-hour journey I would have liked to have been able to eat breakfast. None of the food options were vegan which was very disappointing.
"Good crossing"
Good service ;pleasant staff
"Hassle free trip"
No delays, good service
"Visit to France "
This is a very good ferry so much quicker than other ferries I have used, so if you have a long journey once you have reached your destination you still have energy to drive there.
"Are you there?"
Sometimes you cannot easily access your account online (no network connection) and so it was that i tried to change my booking back to the UK by ringing the UK number given to me. After ringing for 13 minutes without a response from booking staff I had to ring off and try again later. That took 15 minutes before a reply - i.e. a total of 28 minutes of an international call to get someone to talk to. Is there no way of warning of a impending delay (you are x in the queue?) or providing a local French number for booking changes?
"Direct Ferries."
Boat was fine Direct Ferries booking service rubbish! Didn't send a postcode or address for the Port. Don't answer their phone's. Don't answer emails. RUBBISH
"Brill Trip!"
Love the Nomandie express. The captain & crew are lovely and we always have a great experiance when we travel to Cherbourg.
"Fast Crossing"
Wanted a quick crossing to France without having to go via Folkestone and then drive at both sides of the Channel. This was ideal and comfortable but the loading process in Portsmouth was like watching paint dry! Once off the Quay things were great and a super smooth crossing.
"Good trip"
Ferry left on time, was clean and comfortable. My only complaint is the lack of anything vegan to eat. I had to watch my partner eating his full English breakfast when all I could get was a packet of crisps and some olives! It would be great if everyone was catered for.
"All went to plan"
Quick crossing taking only 3 hours. Punctual service, comfortable seating without the need for an upgrade. Catering adequate for a short crossing, but as with all ferry food, a little expensive. Loading & unloading vehicles is a bit time consuming, as they really have to pack them in, on this smaller vessel. As always, passport control in Cherbourg a breeze, Portsmouth not so.
"Brilliant and fast"
Brilliant and fast, what a team!
"First time with Brittany ferry’s "
Check in was very straight forward, ships sailed on time. Staff where great, ship nice and clean with nice food and drinks on board, will defiantly use again 😀
"Return trip to Cherbourg on the Normandy Express "
Crossing was easy -made good time, within the three hours stated. Plenty of room on board. Film for children, good cafes and shop. Toilets were clean. Surprised, however, at how close together the cars were parked, very little room to manoeuvre through, especially when carrying a child and rucksacks.
"Very efficient"
Very clean and efficient. The ship departed and arrived bang on time. Perhaps, as this was my first experience, I might have missed it, but we arrived quite early and spent nearly an hour waiting in our car to board the ship. There was no sign of a terminal to relax in and do some last minute shopping - as you have with Eurotunnel.
"Great fast trip"
On the Catermerain, a fast, comfortable and pleasant trip
"Dog on holiday "
Quick and smooth, ideal for a dog in car.
"Cross Channel Ports - Cherbourg "
Easy to navigate to Portsmouth, greeted well with clear instructions for the car. Journey comfortable. Shop too small and too many cafes (food outlets on board) compared to a standard size channel ferry. No smoking even on the veranda deck. All hot drinks on board are served in a miniature disposable cup, little value for money. Take your own!
"Fast and smooth"
the Normandie Express isn’t a new boat but she continues to provide a fast smooth crossing of the English Channel. The facilities are good, though don’t expect to be about dine out on a three course meal. It isn’t that kind of ship. We arrived at our destination early on both legs of our trip. We like her.
"Great trip"
Good fast and efficient service.
"Cherbourg to Portsmouth"
After being dissapointed by the services (which were lokced) in Cherbourg the boarding was efficient and trouble free We had not booked seats but there were plenty of free comfortable seating - club is very small and would suggest prebooking Food and staff are very good and helpful The vessel was fast very clean and impressive Disembarking was also very efficient
"Excellent service"
A smooth crossing smoothly run
"Nice trip"
Nice fast vessel, left and arrived on time,, pleasant friendly staff, comfortable seats. Highly recommended.
"Cherbourg to Portsmouth"
Speedy and on time with efficient, polite staff throughout. Thank you.
"Well run team"
A very good traveling experience easy to book on line , two good crossings with very helpful staff
"nothing wrong with the trip"
however i am told that when the hydrofoil hits rough water people tend to be sick = hence a lot of sick bags around the boat - but my 2 trips the sea was flat. One thing which has nothing to do with the ship was the journey to/from the port - motorway/dual carriage all the way which i found boring 5 hours for me. Some people might of course find that a good thing
"A fast and smooth crossing"
I have never travelled the Portsmouth/Cherbourg route in the past, but as I was heading to western France it saved me a few hours of driving with the attendant fuel costs and autoroute tolls. The terminal at Portsmouth was easy to navigate and after a short wait the ferry was ready to load us an get away. The catamaran is not particularly big and so it took quite a short time to be ready for sea.The sea was exceptionally calm and we were travelling much faster then I expected. All the crew were cheerful and it was a good way to reach my destination. The size of the ferry obviously limited the range of catering choices on board and while the snacks were pleasant and the coffee particularly good, there is no opportunity to sample the range of excellent food for which our French neighbours are renowned. This could easily be remedied when Cherbourg was reached as we were off the ship and on our way in no time.
"Loved the 3 hour jet cat to Portsmouth - shame it only operates in the summer"
This was my first time on Brittany Ferries. The standard experience was excellent. Boarding, disembarkation, organisation of cars and passengers etc. Overall I was really pleased and would definitely do it again. If somebody pressed me and said what three things would you change I'd say as follows: I wouldn't pay for club seating. An absolute waste of £28 per person. The seats aren't even in a great place on the cat and there were better free seats available throughout the whole journey. Second... I thought the variety of food on board would be much better. The vegetarian options were 20 years out of date. It was almost the old.... cheese sandwich any good for you? We left St Malo at 8am and didn't get back to Norwich until 7pm. A decent meal half way through in our downtime would have been great. A missed commercial opportunity. Finally, I'd have stocked the car up with refreshments. We checked in as soon as we arrived and the only thing then available was a Klix type coffee machine and a can machine. I could have got better food/refreshments at any random petrol station than I had at the boarding point and during the crossing.
"Smooth sailing"
We were worried about how it all would work prior to arrival but we're pleasantly surprised as the operation was like clockwork. There was no need to worry, it is exceptionally well organised and thought out that you can't really go wrong. Lovely staff and very clean and tidy decks.
"Fast trip to and from Cherbourg"
Fast catamaran with limited on-board facilities and cramped car accommodation. We got blocked in on the return journey - initially couldn't get out of the car and, after adjustment, had to be the virtually the last to leave.
"Good service"
Good service, can't fault it. On time as always and plenty off food/drink outlets so no long queues.
"Great way to cross the channel for trip towards Brittany!"
I usually take the shuttle to travel to France through Calais when I go to Paris but for a trip towards Brittany, the crossing from Portsmouth to Cherbourg save a lot of driving and is pretty quick and convenient. The staff was very nice and helpful and even checked on my dog during the crossing to make sure she was ok! The boat was very comfortable and had a good bar and restaurant and free wifi, so the journey pass very quickly.
"Car damaged"
Choppy weather meant our car got damaged in the hold when the car behind went into the back of us. Not the ideal start to our holiday recommended they don't park cars on a sloping bit, and not too close together.
"Quick service but don't plan on getting a meal"
The Cherbourg Portsmouth service with Brittany Ferries is fast and efficient. However, the levels of service on board is limited so do make sure you get your meal enroute to the port as if you leave it until you're onboard you'll be disappointed. Pack a lunch and have a party!
"THE QUICK FERRY TO FRANCE"
The three hours from Portsmouth to Cherbourg was a most convenient way to get to France quickly to allow an early start to drive further south. The ride was comfortable and facilities totally adequate for such a quick journey. Loading and unloading was done efficiently and all the staff on shore and aboard were courteous and helpful.
"Slightly disappointed "
I travelled for the first time via the Normandy express and to be honest will not be doing it again! The cars are parked far too closely together and couldn't get out of our car! We had to climb over seats as there was no room to open car doors! I spoke to a member of staff and they said they tell us to park them like this.
"Normandie Express"
Outbound journey very relaxing . A welcome break from the 4.5 hour drive to Portsmouth ( should have taken 2 hrs) Friendly staff as always with Brittany Ferries ( Travelled over 100 times with them) First time on the express. Impressive ship. 3 hour crossing brilliant Coming back was slightly different. A very full ship and very noisy, avoiding school hols would be ideal as there is nowhere to escape to. Ignore the stars on catering. Not applicable .
"Comfortable trip to Cherbourg"
It was very convenient to travel with Direct Ferries. Departure and arrival were on time and the ferry was clean and there was enough seats for everybody, having the alternative of different places. Woult travel with Direct Ferries any time again.
"Cherbourg - Portsmouth "
Excellent crossing, the speedier ferry makes the world of difference. Plenty of space, quick loading and unloading. Good good, and a not to bumpy sea haha!!
"Feedback"
Quick good service recommend
"we'll do it again!"
Travelled from Portsmouth to St Malo overnight on Bretagne. Wonderful experience. Food and service in restaurant excellent, crossing very easy and smooth. However, we would definitely recommend the booking of a cabin. We didnt and the reclining chairs dont recline very far and so I ended up sleeping on the floor, as it was more comfortable! travelling back came cherbourg portsmouth on Normandie express, again very good service, very easy at both ends, food not so good as on Bretagne and more limited in choice .. much noisier as not such a big boat so less places to go so children more restless. However, for a quick and shorter crossing would certainly recommend.
"Pleasant crossing - if a little rough!"
We travelled from Portsmouth to Cherbourg and return for our summer holiday in France. On the way out, the check in was easy and loading the cars was quick and efficient. The crossing was very rough and I have never seen so many sea sick poorly children! The staff were very accommodating and tried their best to keep the ferry clean in the face of adversity! On the way back, we were about 30 minutes late departing and loading the cars seemed to take much longer. However, once on board the trip was very pleasant and smooth.
"Portsmouth to Cherbourg on Brittany ferries"
Fast and on time service which was admirable. Although not a rough crossing, a great many of the younger passengers were sea sick and I assume this was because of the power of the ship causing at times a considerable disturbing motion. Not a complaint but I have never been on a crossing where so many were ill. The complaint I have is with the catering. I ordered a cooked breakfast and it was absolutely awful and cold. I refused to eat much of it because I was concerned about the likelihood of food poisoning. For a country that justifiably is known for the quality of its food this was somewhat of a shock.
"Fast cat"
Efficient fast pleasant Trip
"Fast and fun!"
The whole boarding and check in process was very efficient especially the car parking attendants. This was both journies. I think it was the same crew. The purser was very helpful when I had a query about smoking on board! He not only said no, but told me why. Other passengers were very sick on the Portsmouth to Cherbourg crossing and it was good to see the staff handing out tissues and sick bags. I think it would be good to give sick passengers some advice. Tell them to go to the middle of the boat and sit still facing forward as this will reduce their sickness. Also, it is possible to buy some body fluid clearing crystals which might help keep your carpets and seats clean.
"A great trip"
Excellent trip. The ship was clean and comfortable and felt very spacious. Plenty of seating to choose from. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. I will recommend this crossing every time. Thank you for starting our holiday so well.
"Quck journey across the Channel!"
First time using the "Fast Cat" service - and very impressed!
"Super trip from Portsmouth to Cherbourg and back again. "
Punctual departures. Late arrival on one journey but only by 15 minutes. Ships clean. A good way to travel to France with the family.
"Very good trip."
All went well thank you.
"Good quick trip"
This is a good way to cross over to Cherbourgh as it only takes 3 hours. The down side is that if the boat is full they pack the cars in like sardines leaving car passengers with very little room to get in and out. I was very concerned about my mirrors as I had very little space either side. Car drivers picked up passengers at the bottom of the ramp who could not easily get back in the car and the lady driver in the next car was forced to scramble into her seat through the passenger side. I realise that the more cars they pack in the cheaper it is but I think they need to have another look at spacing .
"Normandie express"
Efficient booking. Well organized checkin and boarding. Clear explanation by staff on safety during crossing.
"Return Trip to Cherbourg from Brittany"
So .... the surprise was the ship which was Normandy Express ... a relatively small ... but very fast, what appeared to be a catamaran. She was great, easy to load / unload and very impressive and stable at speed. The journey was to time and relatively quick and we were in France in no time. The facilities at Portsmouth were good in the terminal. I would suggest traffic could be really challenging in the Portsmouth area on the wrong day so leaving plenty of time for the journey is wise. The return was on the same ship and just as efficient, the terminal at Cherbourg was frankly dire ... an old faded building with two drinks machines and the most basic of toilets. My advice would be to get close and use local facilities on the way to the port. Anyway a great service from your folks .... thanks for an efficient trip.
"Good Crossing Experience bad check-in"
Passport control is very slow in Portsmouth and dreadful in Cherbourg. Once done with check-in in Cherbourg there is no-where for passengers to use the toilets whilst they wait with their vehicles in line ready for boarding. This is just about ok for adults but certainly not for families with young children. On board food is very limited and runs out within 1/2 hour. Queues for food and beverages are long - there is not enough staff serving behind the bars. There are not enough toilets on board and the cloakrooms are limited to just 2 or 3 toilets resulting in long queues. If you enjoy being herded like cattle and moved about with little consideration then this is the perfect crossing for you.
"Great service "
Fantastic way to get to France Very simple and efficient Staff helpful and friendly
"Great crossing"
First time we've used Normandie Express and I'm sure it will not be the last. The speed of the crossing cut several hours off our first day's travelling. We felt the vessel responding to the sea a bit more than the larger ferries, but not seriously so. The crew were great, very friendly and helpful. Seating was as comfortable as any other ferry we've used (if not slightly better). Our only criticism was the food. We both had sandwiches from one of the bar areas and found they were totally bland, no taste to them at all. Quite the opposite of what we expected.
"Normandie express"
Very comfortable boat, good facilities, would do this crossing again
"Brittany Ferries -great way to get to Europe"
The overnight ferry from Plymouth to Roscoff went smoothly - literally on the calm seas! - and the whole experience. We slept well in our cabin and so had an uneventful journey. The return was via the shorter Cherbourg-Porstsmouth route, and again, was a trouble-free crossing. Plenty of leg-room in the seats ( cf air travel) and could roam around easily. The only disappointment was the small shop onboard - very limited , compared to the shop on the outward journey.
"French trip"
What a quick and easy experience it was to book the trip and when it came to the trip itself.... We were on the boat in no time and quickly settled into very comfortable seats with a fantastic view. The food and drink was great and easily accessible. The staff were friendly and very helpful. It was a great start and finish to a memorable French holiday
"Great customer service "
Great customer service, don't make you wait too long when you're on hold, helped me amend my booking with reseasonable fees
"Good trip"
The ferry was excellent. Great staff and friendly, helpful service. Thoroughly pleasant journey and easy car boarding and leaving too.
"Booked for Cherbourg, cancelled and rescheduled to Caen."
Good crossing, but caused some convenience. I believe compensation is available ?
"Great journey"
Great journey, accomodating staff. Friendly, quick and efficient staff. Smooth journeys both on and off ferry
"Pompey to Cherburg, le harvre to pompey "
Excellent, easy to get to Portsmouth and back to Malvern just over two hours both trips. Good efficient loading and unloading. My only gripe the on board wifi is rubbish, take a book to pass the time.
"Excellent trip"
As a foot passenger I didn't know what to expect - chaos or walk on ease. It was the latter - well organised and smooth crossing. Seating was comfortable and plentiful . Regulat clearing of the tables too.
"Interesting!"
Loading was odd in that we had to reverse our motorhome on board - a first for us. Not impressed with the eating facilities. As our sailing was 17.00 - 19.00, we expected to eat an evening meal, however the choices were extremely limited, very small, but the food was quite good to eat.
"Our trip to France"
We were very impressed with the professional service on our recent trip to Cherbourg.
"Need a website suitable for smart phones."
All kinds of problems trying to book from my iPhone. When you try to book a date the calendar months overlap each other. Good trip though, would recommend.
"A good crossing but..."
Everything was fine. Staff helpful and polite, lounges comfortable clean toilets, BUT the space between the cars on the car deck was ridiculously tight. There were four people in our small area whose passenger couldn't get out of their car, my wife included. One car had to be edged forward carefully to try to get space to get the door open enough to let a lady out. This was uncomfortable, worrying and also a risk of car damage. We only had a coffee so can't comment on the catering which was busy with customers.
"Brilliant "
First time I have used the catamaran and well impressed. One fault as I am on crutches I cannot stand for long and when I went out to the stern of the ship there was no seating.
"Fast Normandie Express."
An efficient fast crossing to France on a clean, light, and super ferry.
"Lovely"
Lovely, quick and smooth crossing, very friendly and help full staff.
"Rough crossing"
Very unhappy to have my Portsmouth to Cherbourg fast ferry crossing canceled (due to bad weather) but the staff we very helpful and transferred us onto the much bigger and slower Portsmouth to Caen crossing, very nice clean boat, helpful staff, just a shame they can't keep the high speed ferry going as it ruined our onward plans.
"Disaster return"
Our outbound crossing was fine. Pleanty of seating, food etc and the boat was clean and looked after. The return was terrible. Due to weather conditions our ferry was cancelled we got news of this the night before and only because we managed to get an internet connection. A text message arrived on the day we were due to travel. We were sent to La Havre. The boat was old and tatty the crossing was 2.5 hours longer. We were not told that it was not allocated seating. We were one of the first on the boat and the last off. We should have used the tunnel
"Ferry trip"
The trip was quick and flawless. Standing in line and taking a bus to travel 100 meters Or so was tedious overkill. Let people who want to walk. You had no accommodations for my friend with a cane. He had to slowly struggle up the steps. A solution is needed. Coming back high winds caused cancellation of our sailing. We really appreciate the cooperative we you help dnus reachedule onto the night ferry. Just build the processing fee into the price. Having it separate makes me feel like Ingot screwed.
"good ,bad, ugly"
Journey to France ,Cherbourg was excellent, smooth, quick, clean. Full English breakfast very poor, clean ship. Return very poor ,ship leaked water, very rough sea, vomiting, uncomfortable seats,no cabin left for us as we had to change ferry. Both car on and off very efficient clear guidance and direction

"Portsmouth - Cherbourg, Fastcraft"
Superb, easy access/exit from boat. Nice food on board. Clean. Will definitely use again. Kids loved it too.
"The way to go excellent service!"
Arrived a tad early no problem clearly marked dedicated lanes approximately 90 minutes before sailing staff swiftly went into action tickets then ushered through security into load lanes then aboard ship where staff directed you into areas depending on vehicle size packed tightly like a well oiled machine then up on deck for coffee croissant and a comfy seat once again staff were friendly & efficient my only beef which is nothing to to with the ferry company is the passport control both entry's its like a bun fight to the gate in fairness its the same at most airports a sign of the times I guess all in all excellent for my needs 3 hours later I'm on the road
"Sea Cat to Normandie"
A very good service. The trouble is that the cars tend to be squashed in far too much, very difficult to get out of the car with the space left between each vehicle. The Commodore seating is nice but very public and not that exclusive like the Sea Cat to Jersey. Time from Portsmouth to Cherbourg excellent but really prefer Brittany ferry to St. Marlo with a Commodore cabin and the excellent dinner served on board.
"Late departure due to technical issues"
Arrived at terminal departure time - one and a half hours ahead of time - staff informed the waiting passengers of a technical issues - thankfully fixed and departed 1 hr late
"Ferry to Cherbourg "
My son and I unexpectedly had to travel by ferry from Portsmouth to Cherbourg. The trip was pleasant and easy.
"A quicker crossing than most"
To pay 50% more than our usual crossing to Normandy required an incentive by way od ease & speed. The three hour by fast cat from Portsmouth to Cherbourg offered that chance. The worst part was getting there by car from Horsham once we reached the A27, which seems to get annoying traffic jams any time of the day. The port service and speed from there on to a snappy 'sailing' meant precise times were maintained, though all round the port through to nearly past the Isle of Wight we seemed to be compelled to creep along well below the GPS monitored 44 mph once power was put on. The three hours includes the slow start and docking right through to driving off - so an honest crsooin time claim by Britannia Ferries. The all Ali vessel was clean, roomy and comfortable with a pleasant crew. In Cherbourg good road sign posting helped speed us on our way south Necessary but officious security checks could have spoilt the experience, but I guess that's everywhere a problem nowadays.
"Lovely calm crossing"
This was a very pleasant journey. Well organised staff, comfy seat and very very calm !!
"Portsmouth Cherbourg fast cat"
Excellent route, swift and convenient.
"cost of review"
I am happy to give you a review but it will cost you £50. On receipt of £50 I will send my review.
"Crossing to France"
Our journeys out from Portsmouth to Cherbourg and back, went without any problems, and we consider it to be very good value for money.
" Good ship and value for money"
We left on time both legs and arrive ahead of schedule. Good service. Really good value for money. I would highly recommend.
"Expensive Crossing"
I appreciate the concept of supply and demand and also appreciate the more last minute the booking, the more it will cost, but I thought that the hike in the cost of our crossing from Poole to Cherbourg was over the top.
"Plain sailing"
It was a fast ship which arrived in good time at our destination. There were a lot of people on board. So I suppose it is to be expected that there will be limited space for a hot breakfast despite the early start. However the distribution of what food there was - croissants and sandwiches - was very haphazard between the different food stations. Consequently ours was continuously running out. Not a big thing but kept us waiting unnecessarily. Otherwise an excellent experience.
"Excellent way to cross the channel"
Great service for crossing the channel
"Bad experience."
Having arrived at the ferry outbound, we were told that we had an outstanding balance to pay as we had 2 cycles on the back of our motor home. We informed them that we had paid in full and included the bikes on the booking. We were then told that perhaps next time to book with them direct. After lots of calls made to the Normandie express 2 employees arrived with a tape measure to measure our vehicle and after another 20 mintues we were allowed to board and the ferry left within 45 seconds of us boarding. On the way back from Cherbourg we had the same as the computer flagged up that we had an outstanding balance, this time we were refused travel until we paid which was £16 (converted from euros) again last on the ferry. Very embarrassing both journeys which also caused an argument between ourselves as we both had different opinions on paying this extra charge which we had already paid your company.
"Crossing "
A very good trip friendly staff and plenty of space. Parking deck staff a little off handed.
"a very good crossing"
The new fast crossing - Portsmouth to Cherbourg in three hours - is really efficient. The ship is clean and comfortable, the catering is good and the staff are friendly. We will travel this way again next year most probably. Le Bateau Grande Vitesse!
"First trip to Cherbourg travelling alone as a foot passenger"
I thought the whole experience was very efficient and easy, especially the luggage loading and unloading. My only criticism is that I had a moment of panic when getting on the boat as it said 'Normandy Ferry to Caen' on the outside. There was no-one to ask but another passenger reassured it was just meant to confuse novices like me!
"Portsmouth - Cherbourg "
Very relaxing trip. Could be a bit cheaper, but overall very good.
"Poor "
we had to rebook with another ferry company in the end as our deal would not allow for changes . We were informed that even the return journey would be void if we used the outward journey . We lost our fee and had to go via Calais . Direct ferries weren't very helpful at all ... It's cheaper to book direct with the ferry company in my opinion .
"Excellent experience"
Our first ferry crossing with a car and we were very impressed! Embarking and disembarking at both ports was punctual, quick and efficient - we were amazed at how speedily the guys got all the cars loaded on! Once on-board the facilities and staff were top notch. All round a great experience!
"Fast yourney"
Fast check in and helpfull personnel.
"My Experience of the Service"
I was pleased. My booking was handled well and the vessel itself was modern, clean and departed on time from both Portsmouth and Cherbourg, completing the journeys very accurately in the times predicted. Due to a mechanical failure with my car I was forced to postpone my return journey twice, because the repair took longer than initially thought. The booking changes were expensive, but I was given a concessionary rate for the second postponement because of the nature of the reason for the change, for which I was very grateful. i would have no hesitation in using the service again as the need arises.
"good service"
Good experience. Punctual outward & inward crossings. Cars packed very tight but generally acceptable arrangements. Rather limited choice of snacks & sandwiches though reasonably priced.
"Just as it says it is!"
I was travelling for the first time with my young son in an unfamiliar place and have to say that the ferry crossing was the least stressful part of the whole trip. The service was exactly as it sells itself to be; uncomplicated and efficient. I would definitely travel this crossing and this provider in preference to others now.
"Normandie Express review"
Our crossing was fantastic - great service, great staff, great ferry! If there was anything that could be improved, I would suggest more facilities for younger children as they are often difficult to entertain! I appreciate there is little space on board the ferry so this request might be challenging!
"A pleasant way to start your holiday"
Highly recommended, very pleasant and smiling staff. One thing I would improve is the internet which I've never actually managed to get on board.
"Simple and efficient service "
Brittany ferries offer a good service out of Portsmouth. Easy to find and quick to get through check-in/loading. Only thing with that is you end up with an hr on the boat before it moves which is only an issue because people tend to grab their seats. Overall the service was ok time the facilities on the boat are okay - for kids they run movies for example. Food is as you would expect. Overall I would recommend and would def use again. Much easier than Calais option etc,
"good crossing"
We normally us the tunnel this was every bit as efficient and much more relaxing
"Portsmouth to Cherbourg"
A very good convenient service. A quick enjoyable crossing.
"Quick Crossing Nice Ferry....."
I enjoyed a quick jump from Cherbourg to Portsmouth this July. The boarding was quick and simple, the terminal was very quiet and to be honest there isn't much there, but thats not an issue as all you need is a quick coffee if you are early. The fast ferry was great, nice sandwich, film for the kids and only 3 hours.
"Normandy Trip 2016"
We sailed on Brittany Ferries Normandie Express crossing from Portsmouth to Cherbourg and had a great experience. All the staff were really helpful, the crossing extremely fast and we would thoroughly recommend.
"Ferry travel"
We were very happy with the whole process. Non-formal and uncomplicated as always!
"Smooth Crossing"
It was all very easy and efficient. From booking online - to driving off in Cherbourg. Food was OK but I would have preferred a bit more choice. However, we weren't on the ferry very long so it was no big deal.
"Excellent"
Everything was perfect, excellent crew, excellent ship, from a to z everything was excellent
"Excellent service"
Staff were exceptionally courteous, boat was very clean and facilities provided great for the short crossing. The welcome by the staff as we parked on the boat was particularly lovely after a long days drive. We would definitely travel with Brittany Ferries again, and it was all topped by great value for money!
"Phew, made it!"
All went like Swiss clockwork. The only somewhat negative point was a lot of uncontrolled or noisy children, but thats hardly the fault of the ferry line. But perhaps an adults only area of reclining chairs?? Thankyou to staff we phoned that let us on at the very last minute!
"Good experience"
I found my trip with Direct Ferries a very pleasant one overall. Staff were all friendly and cheerful and helpful. The only down side I thought was that when we were parked on board we were extremely close to the next car in front of us (I understand that space is of a premium) but by doing this people were actually damaging our car by climbing across the front of it with their bags trailing across the bonnet of the car scratching it. Apart from that our trip was a most enjoyable one and I would definitely travel this way again.
"excellent trip"
we enjoyed our crossing it was fast and efficient
"A Quick Crossing "
Not been across the channel by ship for years . How things have changed . Never travelled by sea so quickly and in comfort . Facilities were very good, even a tv show for the kids . Will have no problem in using Brittany Ferries again.
"Good crossing"
Had a good crossing (3 hours) Portsmouth to Cherbourg, and back, even though the sea was a little rough on the return. Motorhome drivers should be aware that they may (perhaps it is always) have to reverse up the ramp into position on the ferry - means first off at the other side. Plenty of staff around to give instructions. I would use this service again.
"Summer crossing"
All was very satisfactory, timing good, state of ship good. Did not use catering so can't comment.
"brittany ferries"
Great service with brittany ferries to cherbourg , hassle free.
"Enjoyable"
First time we have used a ferry and found it was an easy and pleasant experience and would do it again.
"Review of recent trip on Brittany Ferries Express Portsmouth / Cherbourg return (Le Mans) 16 to 20 J"
Excellent professional service and customer care, with Commodore Class well worth the extra. Looking forward to next year. Chris Pilkinton - LT51 HLO
"First trip "
First trip with brittany ferries and very impressed both sides of the channel
"Normandy Visit"
Excellent staff from arrival to departure. Departed and arrived on time. Cleaners collecting litter and ensuring cleanliness throughout the trip. i would highly recommend Brittany Ferries and we will use them again soon.
"Long weekend on the Cotentin peninsula "
We are walking the pilgrims way to Mont st Michel from Winchester. To get there with our car and bikes was completely hassle free from start to finish. Even though the French industrial action delayed the crossing, direct ferries contacted us a couple of days in advance to confirm the situation as did Brittany ferries via text message. A very good price too compared with booking directly with the ferry company!
"Portsmouth to cherbourg"
Easy to book excellent price and a quick way to get there in under 3 hrs would highly recommend.
"Best Crossing Ever"
Due to the troubles at Folkestone, and the channel tunnel, which we booked a return in advance, we decided to cut our losses and book a single crossing on the Brittany Express to Le-Havre because we could not afford a delay to a very special holiday, touring Europe with each stop over booked on a precise day, and to be late for our first stop in Mitz France would have impacted on the rest of our 18 days. This ferry crossing was fantastic, from arrival at Portsmouth to France, all the staff were outstanding, so helpful, nothing to much trouble. It was easy to park the car, and no salt residue on the car as one reviewer wrote. The ferry left on time and arrived early and to my supplies, my wife who suffers with sea sickness was fine, hence normally travelling via the tunnel. The seating was spacious with plenty of leg room with reclining seats so you could have a nap and feel refreshed on arrival. The food was adequate, by no means a full English breakfast but sufficient for all your needs. If you live in easy reach of Portsmouth, I would definitely recommend this ferry, shame it does not run week days because I would have loved to return on it and will use it again in the future. The driving we saved not going to Folkestone was a pleasure to do in France with hardly anything on the roads as opposed to our traffic jams and problems, cruise control all the way to the middle of France. You will not be disappointed traveling via Brittany Express. Rolls Royce service all the way.
"Move to france"
I chose to take the shorter route (3 hours) from Portsmouth to Cherbourg for my move to France and was very pleased with the service. Very courteous staff, great relaxing spaces, and good food. I would recommend this crossing to anyone.
"Great service, will use again"
A very efficient service from the Portsmouth side. We were a car and three passengers, no problems at all, will definitely use again, much easier and cheaper than flying and hiring a car.
"Channel crossing"
Excellent. Very smooth, helpful service and the all round view from the top deck bar is lovely.
"channel crossing"
Just did the fast route from Cherbourg to Portsmouth and it was brilliant. Will definitely do it again.
"Normandy express-Cherbourg to southampton"
An excellent quick way to cross the channel. The boat was spotlessly clean, onboard staff pleasant and food good.A downside not related to the boat was the poor signage off the motorway to the port and lack of clear signage within the terminal.Small points but you do not need the extra stress after a long drive.Loading/unloading of cars was quick and very efficient.Wouldnt hesitate to recommend or use again myself.A bit further to drive in France but well worth it to escape the dangerous misery that is the tunnel or port of Calais!!
"Great crossing"
I had a very good crossing between Le Havre and Portsmouth. Professional staff, nice people and pleasant journey. Thank you
"ferry journey"
Overall good experience, friendly staff, good crossing.
"Overnight sailing"
All was good
"My crossing ftom Portsmouth to Caen"
Enjoyed the crossin immensely. Good, friendly staff English and French. Boarding with bicycle easy and French crew members courteous, given a card on how to locate my bike upon arrival, nice thought. Very clean ship, excellent meal in the restaurant (my best all holiday!). Would not hesitate using Brittany Ferries again.
"A pleasant trouble free crossing"
Having been on the ship before I was looking forward to a smooth fast crossing on a well-appointed ship and I was not disappointed. Everything seemed to run to time with the only real hold-up being at the Border Police kiosks at Portsmouth. On board, the parking up and off-loading of the cars, directed by the ferry staff, was really haphazard but seemed to work out alright. I guess their aim is to cram as many vehicles on board as possible. In the ship itself, there seemed to be plenty of comfortable seating which was great, and with large windows, the views were great, especially when passing the Isle Of Wight, approaching Portsmouth. Good value bottles of wine in the shop as well! I'd recommend this route to anyone heading to Normandy or Brittany.
"Ferry good"
My husband and I were very impressed with the service we received on this crossing to Cherbourg from Portsmouth. All the logistics were handled smoothly. The staff were attentive and courteous. We had reserved seats, and it was a very pleasant surprise to be served with two drinks during the journey. I can highly recommend Brittany Ferries.
"Poor dining"
All good apart from limited food choice and quality.
"Great alternative to Eurotunnel!!"
The recent chaos at Folkestone/Calais prompted me to try the ferry. I have to say it was remarkably efficient and easy. The terminal was very easy to find, the staff were all very helpful and friendly and we had an excellent breakfast on board. Three hours less driving for me!! I was slightly nervous about how our dog would fare (dogs are left inside the cars) but she was absolutely fine. The crossing is just under 4 hours and she just curled up and went to sleep. Would definitely use again.
"Quick, easy and comfortable"
Very easy experience and excellent route to France
"Bonds voyage"
Both directions excellent service and top quality ships.
"Good alternative to tunnel"
Fast crossing and comfy seats. Rough seas so a bit hairy at times but the staff were very attentive. Would consider again.
"calm crossing "
Excellent service throughout the trip, but the sea being so calm might have made the journey that more enjoyable
"Great journey"
I took a ferry from Portsmouth to Cherburgh and back having a car on board. Boarding was quick and easy, loading cars was amazingly organised and handled well. Staff were helpful and ferry left on time.
"Cherbourg to Portsmouth 20th June 2015"
We normally "do" The Tunnel but because of on-going problems at the French side opted for the "Cat", well, all we can say is FANTASTIC!. 3 hours of comfortable travelling, it was a smooth crossing so don't know what it would be like in rough seas. Only comment I would make "is don't lock your car as the noise on the semi open car deck kept setting the alarms off and the noise of 100 car alarms going off is, well, deafening! However that hasn't put us off doing it again. The check in was fine, boarding uncomplicated, staff very helpful etc. Not a great deal to do, shop, bar, snack bar, childrens area but plenty enough for a short crossing. Very comfy seating with loads of leg room, quite frankly I can't think of anything we didn't like!
"Just what we need"
Fast crossing from Cherbourg to Portsmouth. No special delays, no fuss, perfect. Maybe just a little tight getting out of the car and back in but a minor complaint. Food and drink on board reasonable and tons of space. At that price, we'll be back.
"very efficient."
Pleasant, quick journey.
"Trip to Normandy"
First class experience, particularly struck by charming and very professional crew. very comfortable seating and a speedy trip Hopefully will be able to repeat the journey in the not too distant future.
"Trip to France = Brittany Ferries"
This was a very pleasant and relaxing way to travel to Europe. Easy to get to ports and friendly knowledgeable and helpful staff. As a foot passenger it was great gave the book in counter my suitcase and was transferred to and from the boat on a bus. Perfect, no hassle. Thank you. On board facilities are really good too and the vessel itself is beautiful.
"Easy and quick crossing"
It's a while since I've been on a ferry, and this was the first time with a car and a family. After a shaky start (the layout of the queues at Portsmouth was confusing), we got safely onto the ferry and made our way on deck. There was a relatively small passenger deck, but the food was really tasty and, whilst expensive, not stupidly so, and given that this was a quick crossing, the smalls didn't tire of experience and we emerged safely on the French coast with smiles on our faces.
"Such a civilised way to travel!"
I will never get tired of this crossing between Cherbourg and Portsmouth. It's so comfortable, much faster than you can imagine and we always get looked after so well by friendly and helpful crew. There is no better arrival in Britain or France, than these long entries into fascinating, historic harbours. Long may it continue!
"Foot passenger."
We were fortunately delivered to the ferry by a cousin in their car. It was a little difficult to determine where we were to go as most signs that we saw were for car travellers. When we did find where we were to go we had very friendly service from everyone we encountered. A shuttle bus took us out to the ferry and boarding was easy. Comfortable seats all the way, plenty to eat and drink if you wanted it. All in all a good experience.
"Efficient and Pleasant Crossing"
We sailed from Portsmouth to Le Harvre and back a week later in late August. On the way out we were on the Etretat which is Brittany Ferries 'budget' sailing; and on the way back it was the fast ferry - Normandie Express. I was a bit concerned about the fact the it was supposed to be a budget sailing, but in the end there wasn't any need to worry. The seating was comfortable and it didn't feel overcrowded, despite the car deck being full. There was a small cinema which was extra, but we put the kids in there to watch the film which seemed a cost-effective way of relieving the boredom of a long trip. Only a couple of small points - the car deck is open to the elements and our car was salt-encrusted at the end, and the family thought the food from the cafe was just OK (e.g. overcooked chips), but overall the time seemed to pass very quickly. On the way back the ferry actually left 10 minutes early despite being full - I think that must be a first for me! Again, plenty of room aboard and it didn't feel overcrowded. No queues at the bar but we didn't try the food (the sea was a bit rough!), but overall very pleasant and efficient.
"Successful ferry journey"
Efficient process relaxing journey
"Quick and efficient"
A speedy service. It lacks the feeling of excitement you get on a ferry boat, of starting the holiday with a little cruise, and the catering is merely ok. More like a train journey. But it gets you there quickly, in good time, left very punctually. Staff were good humoured and pleasant.
"Cherbourg/Portsmouth"
I was a foot passenger and was satisfied with the service provided on rthe ferries. The only curious thing to mention was - the use of a bus to transport foot passengers to the Portsmouth terminal when in fact it was not far at all - in Cherbourg, on arrival, we were bussed a lot further East of the dock, away from the town so had to walk a significant extra distance with luggage to the town centre for my next connection. Regards
"Portsmouth-Cherbourg route"
I must say I preferred the ferries, even if the catamarans are quicker. You don't get the feeling of having been on a sea crossing, which is a loss. Also, the catering is poor, and very expensive. Can't you use the old boats again for the Portsmouth - Cherbourg route? Things like cleanliness and punctuality (even in bad weather) seem to be good.
"The staff make the effort"
Lovely bar staff, smartly turned out and great to speak with. Microwave Italian food was very poor taste and value.
"Good service"
Well we did not end up going to Portsmouth. We were notified by text on the morning of the trip that our ferry would be delayed by at least 90 minutes. Anyway, as we were nearby we went to Cherbourg to see if we could get an earlier ferry. Thankfully they put us on an earlier ferry to Poole. not ideal, but appreciate it was the best they could do. Also, the ferry left at 5pm and we boarded the ferry at 4.55pm so thankful that they got us a=on at late notice. Only gripe with the actual ferry was that on departure the toilets were dirty.
"travelling with Brittany Ferries"
We sailed on the Etretat out to France, and the Normandie Express home, both daytime crossings Portsmouth/Le Havre. Excellent service, everything very clear, and clean. The staff were lovely, catering was good both ways. We had delicious crevettes as a proper lunch on the way out, with wine... and a lighter salad lunch in our seats on the return - because I was very happy sitting in the chairs right by the bow-windows for a great view! I don't remember the drive on and off being so fast before, so I was impressed.
"Portsmouth to Cherboutg"
I am very happy to say how well I was treated on this trip in July (2014). It's the first time I've travelled without a car and was unfamiliar with the normal protocols for foot passengers. I was helped at every level, both going and returning; at the ports and on board ship. Thank you very much.
"Trip to Cherbourg on Brittany Ferries"
We had a good trip. The boat was clean and the service ran on time. Thanks for a good crossing.
"Newhaven to Dieppe - Côte d'Albâtre"
Very comfortable ship, efficiently run. Staff were polite and helpful and everything ran smoothly and on time. Just one small niggle - all the bars closed for several hours in the night (this was the night-time crossing) and it would have helped to have had somewhere to buy a bottle of water perhaps. Other than that - no complaints.
"experience"
Lack of choice of food, poor quality, nothing ' french' all 'english' style and quality.
"Commodore class :)"
We have without knowing commodore class and it was a really pleasant trip. On time, punctual and easy. The ferry station in Portsmouth is really new clean.
"Cherbourg - Portsmouth on Normandie express"
This was a very comfortable and pleasant trip, helped no doubt by the calm sea. The boat is superbly designed and fitted out with excellent amenities on board. It is a route I will use again.
"Family vacation"
Portsmouth to Cherbourg on June 21, 2014. Easy to book passage via internet. Luxurious accomodations on board. Good selection of dining choices. Brittany ferries' employees, both at Portsmouth and on board were very polite and helpful. It was a smooth crossing and relaxing voyage. I highly recommend Directferries.co.uk Should be 5 stars.
"Quick & Friendly"
We had scheduled to take the ferry at 6 p.m. on Saturday 21st of June. Due to the strike of the French railway workers we arrived only one day later in Dieppe. The friendly staff changed our bookings without any problems and without additional costs! The crossing to Newhaven was convenient. The only wormwood: the TV life from the world cup in Brazil worked only once in a while (there is maybe a technical reason behind).
"Good speedy ship"
Left on time arrived early an excellent crossing
"Good crossing "
A very pleasant journey
"Splendid"
No problems
"Speed boat"
A great quality crossing
"Portsmouth - Cherbourg crossings"
A rough sea, but a beautiful and nice crossing. The staff was very pleasant and gave us some good advice. We didn't eat aboard the ferry.
"Day trip - foot passenger"
This was an excuse to get my kid to France for the first time. The crossing was rough, but he loved it. The town is a decent walk from the ferryport but we did shopping and the Cite de la Mer which deserves several hours. The film was good for kids and the environment is fun. We'll do it again.
"An excellent prestation"
A very good journey!
"May Holiday"
Ferry loaded early and left early Friday 2nd good trip food selection a bit limited and some items ran out. Return trip on Monday 6th a lot busier a little late leaving and 20minutes late in Portsmouth. Overall a very stress free way of travelling. Will use again. Highly recommend.
"Excellent trip home"
Loved the layout of the ship - fantastic all round views and extremely comfortable seats. Enjoyed being able to see the chart and our position on it. Didn't sample any of the food, shops or toilets, so cannot really comment on the facilities or the catering. All seemed clean, the Captain's comments were clear and we had a nice quick crossing - nothing not to like!
"Caen to portsmouth"
We had a good experience all on time, efficient on and off. We very much enjoyed the dining room service was excellent.
"Sailing to Le Havre"
We had a very enjoyable trip there and back. Having this quick ferry makes travelling to France the best! Keep it going.
"Portsmouth to Le Havre"
We were foot passengers on a recent crossing from Portsmouth to Le Havre on the Normandie Express. The ferry left on time and arrived in France on time. The seating on board was very comfortable, the ride reasonably smooth, the personnel polite. We didn't sample any of the food that was offered for sale. Overall, a very positive impression of this service. The only negative, and it had nothing to do specifically with Brittany Ferries, was the difficulty in finding the train station in Le Havre. No signs, no taxis.
"A beautiful, but slighly agiated crossing"
Everything was well organised. No problem and no delay.
"Review"
I had a very good trip from Portsmouth to Caen returning 10 days later. My only complaint is that I was almost first on the boat on both journeys and LAST off both times. That was a bit annoying.
"All great except for the wi-fi"
The Normandie Express is excellent in every way except for the advertised so-called upgrade of their wi-fi system. It was sporadically acceptable on the trip from Portsmouth to Le Havre but on the return trip wi-fi was virtually non-existent. And we tried it on two computers and two different smart-phones, with the same experience. Very, very frustrating. Nowadays many people like us - and most professionals we know - choose restaurants, cafes, hotels, modes of transport etc. almost solely on the basis of whether they have effective wi-fi. Directferries.co.uk need to appreciate this and do something to improve their wi-fi beyond what they they think is 'acceptable'. Apart from that, the efficiency of boarding, the pleasant staff, the seating, catering, etc. was all really good.
"Charming and helpful staff"
The Britanny Ferry supervisors at Portsmouth and Caen could not have been more helpful and ensured we overcame a little passport difficulty. We only realised our young daughter's passport had expired at the boarding gate - yes, I blame the parents. Thankfully, the supervisor was calm, efficien, effective and charming - he telephoned Le Havre who refused us entry, but Caen said yes, so he then booked us on a later boat that morning. Holiday rescued. Thanks guys, or we would have had no alternative but to cancel the trip. And how nice to have a relaxed cooked breakfast on board, and the kids loved the cinema. Better than flying, by far.
"Petrtsmouth - Cherbourg "express""
Well, it's fast. If your only requirement is speed, this is the boat for you.
"going home"
I was very impressed with all aspects of the normandie express, from punctuality when loading, comfortable seating, courteous staff, good facilities and a smooth trip,I would recommend this ferry to all my friends and family.
"Good and quick journey "
The entrance to the ship by motorcycle was quite easy. The ferry wass quick and it was quite good. You can pay in euros or in pounds. There is a currency exchange office onbard. The staff was quite nice and punctual.
"No complaints"
Ferry was bit smaller than I expected and not as much to do, so would recommend taking you own activities for little ones (there were two TVs playing cartoons). Breakfast options were fairly limited. Staff were professional and helpful, ferry was clean, journey took a bit longer coming back due to bad weather at the French side. All in all would probably use this route again for convenience reasons (we were staying half an hour from Le Havre) though there are quicker and far cheaper options if prepared to do e.g Dover/Calais and extend the drive on the French side. No complaints with Brittany and you cant go wrong with finding terminal; v clear signposting on both English and French sides.
"August travel"
Excellent passage so good we have already booked for next year to santander.
"ferry good "
380, - € already an expensive pleasure. Settlement well. Ship by air conditioning relatively cold.
"Great price, great service "
Found a brilliant 5 day deal on Direct Ferries travelling on the Fastcat Normandie Express - return price in the region of £170. We arrived in good time at the port (we do only live 15 minutes up the motorway) & were immediately directed to one of the queues for boarding the boat. We were on board in about 15 minutes where we found the front lounge which was extremely comfortable & well equipped with a cafe bar where they were already serving continental breakfast. There was plenty of seating all over the boat & other cafe facilities serving hot & cold food. Everyone was aboard by 06.45 so the captain gave the order to leave port. Beautiful smooth crossing & we arrived in Le Havre in good time. Very easy disembarkation & we were off on our holiday. The return journey was equally as good.
"Ferry to Portsmouth "
Outbound in order, returning from Portsmouth to Le Havre at 7 clock in the morning early.
"Thanks"
Good fast crossing.
"Brittany Ferries crossing to Cherbourg"
We had a great crossing. The boat was clean and comfortable. Staff were very helpful, but also very abrupt. We didn't buy food so I can't comment. Overall we were pleased with the service and the value for money.
"Crossing Cherbourg-Portsmouth "
good
"well-organized, pleasant crossing"
Our crossing from Portsmouth to Cherbourg was handled smoothly by all personnel. The passenger lounge was clean and offered quick service for food and drinks. Personnel were sympathetic and quick to clean up after passengers who suffered from seasickness. A great experience.
"professional "
Good, smooth handling when bording, always ensuring safety, service on board OK Partial bit cold announcements please be slowly and clearly, so can follow the instructions well full, ongoing air conditioning, and in the language less experienced. No inexpensive delight at any time to travel again so book in advance and easily.
"miscellanous"
No problems during the crossings, a very good reception at the bar, cheerful and efficient. However, it's late every time. One hour in the port during the inbound journey because of traffic and boarding times
"Brittany ferry to Le Havre"
Trip was fine in terms of embarcation, punctuality and facilities. Next time we`ll book a cabin as gives some privacy & quiet space to snooze or read.
"Crossing between Le Havre and Portsmouth"
A good crossing, but you should avoid sitting under the AC, as it's freezing!
"Very good indeed"
Very comfortable, very smooth crossing, very clean ferry, great service. Above all punctual.
"Allow plenty of time!!"
Recently, after working in France I was able to arrange a very good travel time for my return to the UK. However, despite allowing myself 90 minutes to find the Port and the Ferry Terminal, I drove around the Port area and only just managed to catch the ferry with 30 minutes to spare. I had never been to Le Havre before and while my Sat Navi to me to the Port it did not take me the Ferry Terminal. There is one sign that is fine if you approach it from the right direction and Brittany Ferries web site not only gives out an incorrect telephone number, it does not provide any directions to the actual Terminal, so I found myself havin g to call the UK office in an attempt to get help, which I will admit was forthcoming by means of being given the correct contcat telephone number. Great Ferry but rubbish logistics!
"Trip in between France and Great Britain"
Excellent service during the crossing. Boarding and disembark operations on time.
"Stress free ferry"
Travelled from portsmouth to le Harve, no problems, quick easy ferry.
"See you next time"
A nice weather and a fantastic crossing. A nice staff. I will use this company again.
"in order "
happy again, everything O.K.
"Exactly as we hoped."
We arrived at Portsmouth 45 mins before the journey and joined a short queue of cars. We were boarded within approx 10 mins of arriving and left our car to wander the ferry. Ferry was small but perfectly adequate. It was only a 3 hour journey so didn't need any more than we got. We had a cup of tea and a salad from the cafe. It was a bit overpriced but I think that's to be expected so no surprises there. The food was actually pretty tasty though so that was a bonus! Alighting was a prompt process too. We were on our way in no time at all with a wave goodbye from a very enthusiastic staff member who literally waved at every car that left the ferry.
"Le Havre Portsmouth"
We enjoyed our trip on Brittany Ferries. It was a very efficient service and very slickly run. The seating was most comfortable, toilets clean, bar service good. Quite expensive though.
"times "
Just be aware that you choose the correct departure time and not have to get up too early.

"FERME"
We travelled Portsmouth to Cherbourg on 22/06/13. It was very rough and therefore an unpleasant crossing. I had forgotten the unfortunate motion of the "cat", The Normandie Express which resulted in instructions to remain seated. I would be careful to avoid this vessel in the future Nevertheless I must compliment the crew for their care and helpfulness at all times. Our return on the 29th was far better as the sea was calm. My only reservation concerning our whole trip, was the lack of facilities at the terminal building in Cherbourg. The only cafe was "ferme" on Saturday. This is quite ridiculous and totally unacceptable. We arrived with a young baby, in good time, expecting to be able to eat. How disappointing ! It spoiled the end of our holiday.
"Great Crossing"
Despite the choppy weather on the way to France it was great travelling with Brittany Ferries. Helpful staff and we were kept updated with the slight delay to our journeys (only 15minutes late each time). The boat is fairly small with a couple of coffee type shops, a shop and a Bureau de Change. Some large screens showed some cartoons to help keep the little ones entertained when they tire of going out on deck. Overall, would recommend and would use this service again.
"Quick trip across the Channel but terminal difficult to find ."
After dropping the car at the rental car company, we were given directions on how to get to the ferry terminal. A short walk across the bridge but ALAS no signs to tell us where the terminal for Brittany Ferries was!!!! Eventually found it but a sign would have been handy! Ferry trip itself was smooth and fast with great facilities .
"Quick and confortable"
A very good and confortable crossing. A very good timing which enable us to arrive mid afternoon. The staff is nice, efficient and helpful. It is very clean.
"An agitated sea"
Although the sea was very agitated, we arrived on time in Cherbourg and the staff was attentive and thoughful during the whole journey. They even offered peppermint to those who were feeling sick. Congratulations and a big thank to the whole crew. My only complain is that the quality of hot meals could be improved.
"Fast and efficient"
We crossed to France on the Saturday evening ferry because of the price difference which easily covered an overnight stop near Cherbourg. The boat wasnt full by any means which made boarding and alighting a speedy process. The crossing was rough but nevertheless an enjoyable trip. We returned on the Saturday evening ferry a week later and although this was much fuller there was still plenty of room and a large choice of seats. Even though there were more vehicles, they were loaded and unloaded with speedy efficiency by the crew. My only complaint, nothing to do with the ferry company, would be with the parents of young children who must believe that everyone is amused by their little darlings being allowed to run up and down isles yelling and screaming.
"Entente cordiale???"
Brittany Ferries warned us in advance that the sailing time would be late due to one of the ferry engines malfunction. In reality, we were three quarters of an hour late . BUT that was not a problem for us, though it may have been for others. The problem was that at Le Harvre there was absolutely no where to sit down and buy a cup of coffee and something to eat, apart from a machine dispensing drinks. There is a bar area but it was closed to embarking clients. For those who had travelled quite a distance, I feel this is totally unacceptable. When we finally boarded the trip was fine, though late and the facilities reasonable, although no freshly prepared food, or microwaveable dishes.
"Excellent way to France!"
Our recent trip to France was very successful. We sailed from Portsmouth to Le Havre. The ship was great. Lots of room and comfy seats. Breakfast was tasty and generous for the price. Staff were courteous and helpful. I would certainly recommend this service to anyone returning to France in the future.
"Nice crossing"
Our trip was very enjoyable. It happened so fast, the loading and unloading of the car is easy and fast. Worth it.
"very good crossing"
Good crossing, one of the best i have had as there was no sea sickness and it was very quick.
"Rough crossing!"
Check-in and loading were very efficient. We were warned the crossing would be rough and it sure was! Many, many people staggering to the loos. These were checked at least every 10 mins and were kept spotless, which was some comfort. I'm sure it would have been worse in a single-hull slower ferry in that particular wind. Seating was comfortable and plentiful, staff very attentive, and they came round very frequently for litter etc. We docked early, and disembarking was also efficient and easy. The shop was small and limited, but it was there. This is our 2nd time on this ship and we do recommend it.
"The shortest route isn't necessarily faster or cheaper"
Our original intention was to use Dover Calais or the tunnel to travel to Honfleur in Normandy. But on reflection Le Harve was within 30 mins whereas Calais was some hours away along the auto route. True the cost of the Le Harve Portsmouth crossing was more, but we saved fuel and toll fees but more importantly time. Then of course the true cost per mile of driving needs to take into account wear and tear so it was a logical choice. Very good port access at Le Harve, excellent at Portsmouth. Roomy ferry for both car and passengers but to be fair, it was not a crowded crossing. While I still love the simplicity of the tunnel, its not for all people nor all routes so would recommend and use again. Would also recommend not opting for the obvious short crossing.
"A review of a the passage to Portsmouth"
We got on. It was a smooth crossing. The staff did their jobs well. The hot food portion size was pitifully small, but relatively tasty. We slept, and watched a film. We got off. The price was good.
"Recent trip "
Enjoyed the crossing, although snack bars need to be better stocked.
"Well done ship's crew"
Outward journey was smooth and impressive. The return was exciting. Fast cat in a force 8 with a heavy sea is uncomfortable. Easily 50% of passengers were physically unwell and only a small percentage were unaffected by the ship's movement. The rough weather lasted about 2 hours of a 4 hour crossing. The ship's crew were superb. Every passenger was being observed at all times and if sick were attended to by a staff member. The filled bag was removed, paper towel handed out and a fresh sick bag issued. This prompt action prevented the situation deteriorating and although it was routine for them, I was impressed how they maintained a reassuring composure moving around from passenger to passenger in a rolling ship. Well done the crew of Normandie Express. Amazingly the journey ended in smooth conditions and those who were unwell seem to make a spontaneous recovery and joined the queue for food.
"Rocky Ride but staff were superb"
The outgoing journey was pretty simple - on time, smooth, fast and easy. (Exactly as it should be) The return journey was quite the opposite. (Sat 08 June 2013 Le Havre 12:30 - Portsmouth 15:15) We were late to board the boat. We were then informed this was because the weather wasn't good and we can expect a rough ride although I didn't quite realise it could be as bad as it was! However, the staff surpassed all expectations. They were running around helping absolutely everyone - they were like emergency nurses in a hospital. (Bringing blankets, napkins/wipes, cleaning up, comforting people, keeping us informed, checking on us regularly. The way they reacted was so professional and yet still personal - it was a perfect example of customer service.
"Satisfied with the crossing!"
Very satisfied, look forward to opportunity to use again.
"Le Havre Portsmouth by fast ferry"
My crossing on the fast ferry 'Normandie' went really well. Sea was a bit rough but we still arrived on time and on board all was good.
"Fastcat portsmouth-Cherboutg"
Overall, it was a good trip. However, the limited range of food, which was all pre-packed, was a disappointment. We realise this is a shorter journey, but most people wanted to have a small meal or a wider selection of sandwiches and salads/cakes.
"Satisfaction"
Both Cherbourg-Portsmouth trip were good. Confortable boats and a nice staff.
"Le Havre - Portsmouth"
Departure on time, a very good impression of the car ferry. Clean, spacious, quick. Pleasant staff. I recommend this crossing. Plus, it's affordable. The only drawback; it leaves too early for England.
"Nice Ferry Crossing"
We had a very pleasant ferry crossing from le Harve to Portsmouth, cannot be faulted.
"Le Havre - Portsmouth Crossing"
This service compares very favourably with all the other ferry services especially when compared to those operating out of Dover. Just wish it could be offered all year round as a property owner we need to get to France and back frequently and quickly.
"Excellent"
Excellent booking trip everything!
"Quick "
Quick and good crossing from Le Havre (after several years of using the car-ferry for a 7 hours trip). Confort OK, average restaurant (price/choice). Well bring a pique-nique next time.
"It went as it should"
Ponctuality, services on board, reception, everything was fine.
"Brittany Ferries"
Travelled Portsmouth to Caen and back with Brittany and as per usual a very relaxing and enjoyable trip. Managed to book through Direct Ferries and bag ourselves a saving of £100.00 on the Brittany price. Will always book a cabin, you arrive much more refreshed and ready for the onward journey.
"Thank You"
Thank you Brittany Ferries for playing your part, in the making of, a great mid week break. Fabulous ships, staff and facilities.
