Port Denarua is on a small private island in the northwest corner of Fiji’s mainland, Viti Levu. It is the main gateway to some of the beautiful islets along the northwest coast and is just twenty minutes from Nadi International Airport by car. It is considered the island’s finest marina facility, offering restaurants, a spa, a large supermarket and a wide selection of shops. You can also book tours and activities inside the terminal. There are a number of luxurious hotels on Denarau Island where you can relax overnight before your journey as well.
Found on the inside curve of the horse-shoe-shaped Matacawalevu Island, one of the larger landmasses that make up the streak of isles off the north coast of Fiji, is the Bay of Plenty Resort. This small settlement of holiday cabins is built upon the grassy hills that line the coast, their flat-topped peaks offering views across the glassy waters of the South Pacific Ocean. This largely uninhabited isle is home to just two quaint coastal villages – Vuake and Matacawalevu Village – that sit at opposite ends of the south-facing bay. Both villages are rich in the colourful local culture and are shadowed by the steeper inland climbs that rise towards the Fijian skyline. The port at the Bay of Plenty is nothing more than a designated area of the beach, and as such does not have any facilities beyond those offered at the nearby resort. Due to the lack of roads or public transport, the port can only be reached on foot. Currently only one service operates from the port at the Bay of Plenty Resort. An Awesome Adventures Fiji line leaves the bay a number of times throughout the week, heading the short voyage south to the port-town of Denarau on the mainland coast of Fiji.
