"Return to UK in my new car!"
On the 11th. August, I flew to Geneva by Easy jet in order to travel by train to Lausanne where my friend lives. The reason was to spend the night in his apartment and then on the following morning, drive back to the UK in my new acquisition (a Toyota GT86)
I am not a young man, 75 years old to be precise, But Thomas had bought a larger vehicle and as I have never grown up, I couldn't resist the offer of this super car.
I had booked a ferry with 'Direct Ferries' for the return crossing of the Channel for Sunday 13th. August. about 2.30 PM sailing. I planned to spend the night near Reims which would have left me plenty of time to arrive at Calais in time for the boarding sequences.
In fact, the car journey was quicker than expected, an I arrived in Calais on the Saturday evening!
Sadly, all the hotels were fully booked so as the light was failing, I decided to drive back towards Reims on the auto route and stopped at the first layby with running water and loos. Yes, I did spend the night in the car and the following day, I arrived early at the port. Thank goodness, as it was extremely busy but amazingly enough, I succeeded in boarding on time. Having had no breakfast, I headed for the restaurant and enjoyed a marvellous lunch, it was very much appreciated! Having bought my presents, The rest of the crossing was over quicker than expected having sat next to an interesting couple to talk to.
The unloading went very efficiently and by 3.45PM. I was back in Crowborough. Thank you very much for making the last leg of my journey so enjoyable, even though I was tired, but that was my error!
