Historical buildings, youths with surfboards and simplistic guesthouses paint Queenscliff as a surfing town from the mid-90s. High rise hotels and the inset of modernisation have slowly transformed it into a tourist focussed resort; the beaches are an obvious drawing point but the entire town is drenched in culture and diversity. Fort Queenscliff Museum offers an insight into the history of the town, especially the military past and how it protected the shores. The architecture that dominates the town is refreshingly traditional and lends itself to a whole day just wandering around the spacious streets and laid back atmosphere. The chilled vibe embodies the entire town, yet come nightfall life is thrust into Queenscliff; bars and restaurants are populated with people of all ages enjoying delicious food and alcohol whilst looking out over the harbour. For a particularly entertaining evening, The Blues Train has become arguably the most famous attraction in the town – jazz and blues music is played on the carriages - with a bar on the train serving alcohol at fairly affordable prices.
Cycling has sprung into one of the most popular forms of transport, with the winding roads and idyllic surroundings proving an ideal environment. Hiring a car is also a credible choice due to the relatively large distance between landmarks.
