Tarbert is Scotland at its simplistic best; jagged rock formations adorn the coastline and authentic architecture decorates the village centre – all with the brisk breeze of the infamous Scottish air dominating the atmosphere. With such stunning landscape and tempting walking trails, the most popular and satisfying pastime is to embark on a hike across the verdant, imposing mountainside. Do so in the summer for the perfect opportunity to rejoice in the tranquillity and snap a few photos for your Instagram. Away from the towering mountains and quaint houses, the most picturesque part of the village is the colourful harbour – affording a pleasant area to sit and relax at a local café whilst watching the incoming ships and small yachts. A few restaurants grace the docks, offering seafood fresh from the water as the day’s speciality.
The village is very small and can easily be covered by foot in less than a day.
The port of Uig lies on the west coast of the Trotternish peninsula on the Isle of Skye, Scotland. Uig is both an ideal gateway and base to explore the beautiful Isle of Skye, with frequent crossings to and from Lochmaddy and Tarbert every day. The Uig ferry terminal is situated at the northern end of the A87 in the village of Idrigil, so it’s within easy reach from most towns on Skye and the northern mainland. There is also a bus stop located outside the terminal building next to the ticket office. The terminal itself has a large, seated waiting room, a public telephone and toilet facilities, ensuring your journey is as comfortable as possible from the start. This particular area of Skye is renowned for its magnificent rock formations and captivating historical landmarks, so be sure to see as many as you can during your visit.
