  • "Great trip"

The Diagoras is a large modern comfortable ferry. We were only on it for three and a half hours so cannot comment on cabins, but the corridors all looked immaculate. We had a lovely dinner in the dining room and a very pleasant trip from Rhodes to Tilos.

Tilos Guide

The Greek island of Tilos is one of the Dodecanese group of islands in the Aegean Sea and is located halfway between the island of Kos and the island of Rhodes. The island's landscape is characterised by mountains, hills and plains where visitors can see around 400 varieties of herbs and flowers growing. The island also has a number of species of rare birds nesting there including Nightingales, Goldfinches, Bonelli's Eagle, Hawks, Herons and Bee-eaters, to name just a few. The whole island is a vast ecological park and is protected by international treaties.

The island's main town and port is Livadia where visitors will find the remains of a castle, deserted stone houses, Byzantine churches and paved streets. Although Livadia is the largest town, the island's capital is actually Megalo Chorio which is about 2 km from Livadia. A popular attraction on the island is the beautiful abandoned 15th century monastery of Agios Panteleimon which has some interesting icons. Also worth visiting is the Castle of the Knights which is where the Knight of St. John were based during the 15th century.

Ferries from the island's port depart to Piraeus, Rhodes and to other islands in the Dodecanese.

Kalymnos Guide

The Greek island of Kalymnos lies in the south east Aegean Sea and is located between the islands of Kos and Leros, and is one of the Dodecanese group of islands. The island is quite small with a land area of just over 100 sq. km but despite this it is the fourth largest of all the Dodecanese islands. The island's name has changed over its history. It was first named Kalynda, then Kalymna and then finally, Kalymnos. The island's capital is Pothis, although the most of the island's residents live in Chora, and is the island's second largest town.

Kalymnos is known for its sponge divers and sponge fisheries and it's inland terrain is steep and rocky and is popular with climbers. There are over 1,300 different climbing routes on the island that range in difficulty and terrain. Some routes are on slabs, some on big walls or on overhangs. The landscape used to be a curse for the island's residents but as it attracts visitors to the island it is now a blessing, certainly in terms of tourism.

There is a frequent ferry service to Piraeus, Rhodes and to the other Dodecanese islands. There are also ferry routes operating to the Cyclades islands, Samos and, during the summer season, to Chios, Mytilini, and Thessaloniki.
