What is there to do in Visby?

Crowned as a UNESCO Heritage Site, Visby exemplifies everything that is beautiful in Scandinavia; gloriously verdant scenery graces much of the landscape, and in the more urban areas, a myriad of mesmerising towers, spires and cottages create a wave of architecture that is unrivalled across much of Europe. The Old Town itself can often a resemble a medieval city; wander along the winding cobblestone streets, leading to a host of cafes and restaurants that offer classic Swedish cuisine and refreshing hot beverages, whilst admiring the imposing edifices and unique structures and designs. For those that really get into the medieval spirit, a whole week is dedicated to roleplay, where the town is drenched in queen, king and knights costumes feasting on a tasty banquet or dancing and drinking the evening away. When an entire town is as compactly covered in beautiful buildings, it can be hard to determine which landmark should top the itinerary, however, of all the incredible architecture, Saint Maria Cathedral is a truly magnificent spectacle. After visiting the cathedral, Botaniska Tradgarden is a rejuvenating area of beautiful forestry and Gotlands Museum offers a fascinating insight into the history of the island.
